$15 is reaching the threshold for what one should pay for a t-shirt, let alone the $56 on some of those.
You can still find quality t-shirts (lands' end, american apparel, gap) for ~$5/each when they go on sale.

What makes a t-shirt worth $56?

You're paying for the designer's name. He was the menswear designer of the year, etc.

Rodney, their XL will = a small at any real store. I've been to the flagship store. I'm neither hip enough or rich enough to shop there (though I do have a pretty sweet, super-expensivo belt buckle from them)

yeah most designer shit means an xl or xxl for me. i've gotten my fatness down to the level that only requires an L at regular stores.

I figured that; but what makes it a designer t-shirt besides some dude's name on the label? Do they fit differently? Are they made of different materials?

I fucking love these places... their Smalls or XS's are, like, correct on me. I went 30 years without knowing what it's like to have a t shirt or dress shirt actually fit correctly. American Apparrel has some awful 80's bullshit in their stores, but those XS dress shirts are gold.

Aside from being smaller by a factor of 10 than real sizes -- not really. You're paying for the "cool" factor.

I would bet they actually buy the shirt from American Apparel and then screen it with whatever design they come up with.

Last 2 christmases I've asked for mostly dress shirts / pants from there.

Short shirt answer - - You're an idiot if you pay $56 for a t-shirt. Feel free to openly mock anyone you see wearing one that cost that much.

You don't know how many times I've wanted a shirt or pair of pants that's on sale and had to shake my fist at the sky and yell "If only I was Kyle's size!"

Like, I've almost bought you clothes before.

I NEVER see XS's unless I go to Am Apparrel. And even there, the other skinny little bastards pick it over quickly. I have to pounce.

Also there's a guy in Madison (friend of friends) who picks up shit for me at thrift stores, and he's got excellent taste. Every year or two, I got a box in the mail with 5 or 6 really great vintage shirts that fit perfectly, all of which immediately jump to the top of the wife's Favorites list.

I just moved to Brisbane two weeks ago, haven't seen any kangeroos yet and it hasn't stopped raining since I got here.

A few years ago I bought some brooks brothers polos that were on sale and were medium size. When I tried them on I was shocked at how small they were, almost like kid sized.
