We're almost a month into 2012...what albums have you been enjoying?

First listen impressions:

Guided By Voices - Let's Go Eat The Factory (Good but ultimately pretty forgettable.)
Gonjasufi - MU.ZZ.LE (I should like this more than I do. A bit disappointing. It feels incomplete.)
Xray Eyeballs - Splendor Squalor (Decent but nothing that will stick with me a few months from now.)
Pop. 1280 - The Horror (Very good. RIYL: Mission of Burma)

I hadn't realized that there's a new Xiu Xiu album coming out. I just checked and its release date is March 7.

The Jealous Sound - A Gentle Reminder

The only 2012 release Ive heard so far. Sounds great though, and could easily make the year end list

Just checked them out and I liked what I heard. Is there a link floating around for this?

Thanks for the rec, OPA!.

Early listens, early returns, in order of preference (the first 4 are most likely to stick over the year):

Foxy Shazam - Church of Rock and Roll
Howler - America Give Up
The Afternoons - Fan Fiction
Throwback Suburbia - Shot Glass Souvenir
Asteroids Galaxy Tour - Out of Frequency
June Star - Slow Dance
Porcelain Raft - Strange Weekend
John K. Samson - Provincial
Dr. Dog - Be The Void
Imperial Teen - Feel the Sound
Mark Lanegan Band - Blues Funeral
Lambchop - Mr. M
Rae Spoon - I Can't Keep All Of Our Secrets
Tribes - Baby
.
.
.
Anal Del Rey - Born to Die

Reeeally looking forward to the upcoming releases from Prima Donna, the Go Wows, and V.V. Brown. And I'ma hunt that Spy Island down too.

I really liked their last one but this one kind of felt like b-sides to that with jamie's lyrics just trying to be extra shocking.

This band is getting some serious local hate. They streamed the album on NPR and I checked about half of it out before I decided it was well deserved hate.

I can't listen to it at the moment; but I read a bunch of reviews.
Seems like no one really likes it, but they don't have the balls to give it less than four out of five stars.
There were a handful of reviews that picked it apart more tactfully and ended up giving it 3-4/10.
Since I didn't locate any, where is the local hate in print form?

I'm genuinely excited to shit all over this.

they're definitely not breaking any new ground or anything, but i think for those who are fans of their sound, this is a pretty cleanly-distilled version (which may be a negative to some, of course)

It's just been people talking on the streets and the message board.
I think the local publications like City Pages were raving about it.
Most of the hate seems to be just because they've made it.
I had seen them before they blew up and I couldn't remember a single note of it.
I guarantee you will not be able to stomach a listen of the whole thing.

I was expecting this to be horrible.
It's nothing that hasn't been beat to death over the past five years already. I can see how these guys will do well; and it's not worth my time to try to list every band they ripped off.
It's not horrible and if I had to choose, I'd rather listen to this than those John K. Samson or Craig Finn albums; but like the others, I deleted this as well.
