Always liked this album...possibly due to burnout from every other Floyd album, possibly due to some pretty great songs:

Side A somehow morphed into the Best. Acid. Music. Ever at one point in my life:

Billy Bragg - Life's A Riot With Spy vs. Spy

Political, charged, folk rock. For me, probably the best thing Billy Bragg every put out, and is wonderfully melodic yet intense at the same time.

Image
Circle Jerks - Golden Shower of Hits

Right up there with Group Sex, this is packed full of great hardcore fury and fun. Standouts include "Coup d'etat" and "When the Shit Hits the Fan."

Image
Go-Betweens - Before Hollywood

Australian pop/rock at its best. Just a beautiful, jangly record and includes the semi-hit "Cattle and Cane."

Agree that's an underrated Pink Floyd album, than again I am one of those that considers the Roger Waters years the best.

And love that Circle Jerks album, the Jerks on 45 medley at the end always makes me smile.

Maybe not the most critically acclaimed of his albums, but it is, nonetheless, my favorite. "That Summer Feeling", "Give Paris One More Chance", and "The Neighbors" are undeniable Jojo classics. Yet it is "Not Yet Three" (told from the p.o.v. of a 2-year-old who does not want to go to sleep) and "You're the One for Me" (my wedding song) that are my absolute favorites on here.
Love this record.

Also... Whodini's first album, although I'm seeing a bit of a hip hop dry spell with the first wave fizzling and Run DMC still backstage getting ready to blow shit up in 84.

I don't think I've ever heard this, although I've always been a fan of the follow-up, Escape.

Pretty similar actually. The Haunted House Of Rock is a good track and the "hit" off it.

That album isn't much either compared to their next two.

Also, must be mentioned because well, it's pretty good:

That Rain Parade is one I like to drag out still from time to time.

And War for me is the U2 high point by a long shot. I never really gave a crap about pretty much anything they released after that album, but I really played the shit out of War, and still pull it out as well.

i tried with that Rain Parade and that The Three O'Clock but neither really made much of an impression. pleasant, but not that great imo.

+1 on a ton of these; really good year.

BG, your post should win an award for "most bad album covers collected in one place"

Some good additions there among the bad covers (and among some music that personally makes me cringe).

I'm particularly fond of that Plimsouls album, that Lords of the New Church one, and the Elvis Costello. Good Yellowman too record and despite it being nothing but covers, that UB40 album is great and did a ton to expose a much wider audience to a really good selection of reggae classics.

Not their best, but Chicago hardcore pretty much started with this release.

I have this on vinyl, but haven't listened to it in quite some time. I think I'll get it out soon. Thanks for mentioning it.
