Slightly off topic but this thread got me thinking. Does anyone know what drugs are used for assisted suicides?

I know this was a rhetorical question, but I will answer it anyway.

What is wrong with me is that I was growing up when VH put out their first handful of albums, I wore them out then, and I still enjoy some of them. It's hard not to be nostalgic when the former leader of a band rejoins the group you once listened to ad nauseum as a kid. If this were such a rejoining of a lead singer of say, the aforementioned Limp Bizkit, then I would have the same reaction as you did.

I like all their albums with Roth too but this is not even close to being as good as those. It's embarrassing.

It was the only album I played on Friday, I just kept playing it over and over like a mental patient.

As much as I wanted to like this album, after my first full listen, I have to agree with my good pal shiverhead.

I think there are maybe 1-2 songs that would have fit on one of the original DLR albums, but that's about it. The rest of it is just an awful, awful mess. And it truly pains me to say that, because I was a VH DIEHARD back in the day, and really did want this to be a majestic return to form.

I went and downloaded all the Roth era albums too, there are a few I've never heard before.

curious FT, how is it an awful mess? you do realize that quite a few of these tracks are from the DLR era right? I think the majority of this album would fit right in with the early albums, and it sounds incredibly similar to them.

honestly, i think it might have more to do with the production than anything else

so much of it doesn't really have the clean, crisp sound of their early albums

I just think that too many of the songs on this album seem to have the sliders on the mixer board pegged all the way up to max level, which results in a generally indistinguishable noise. There might be some good songs buried in there somewhere, but I sure can't hear them.

And I still like to rawk, so this isn't easily dismissed as "if it's too loud, you're too old." Loud is good, when done properly, but too much of this is just racket.

Yes. Bonus DVD has them playing 4 songs accoustic and having a pretty good time. Well worth the purchase.

What style is the COC? Blind-ish, or have they answered my wishes and gone back to a Technocracy-era sound?
