For a band that was every critic's darling a decade ago, you really don't here them mentioned in the same light anymore.

Don't you think though that critics are typically more obsessed with the "next great thing" than "aged band with good following putting out its 8th record"?

With that being said, a lot of critics stepped all over themselves to say that the last record was the "best since YHF".

Most critics are def more concerned about the next big thing, but I don't hear the more even-keeled places like NPR or whatever giving them the same love either. Personally, I feel like they put out a couple good records and hit mediocrity--more of a good band overall than great.

All of these folks are bands that I have always tried to/wanted to like - and at one point I was a huge Wilco fan - but aside from the first SV album and the first 3 Wilco albums (all of which I may have played once all the way through in the past 4-5 years) I just can't muster the give a fuck anymore.

And I listened to, and enjoyed, the last album. Posted in the thread. It's good. I've played it 3 times.
