Yeah I swear I've never seen / heard of that guy / band, but that shit is HARD. Bass player had the hardest job of all of them - dude was fucking busy, between the dance steps and the bass line, and hit every damned note.

I had the show on while I worked, and Bruno Mars, Springsteen, Adele, and the finale were the only performances that made me stop to watch.

Oh, and Bon Iver. Bon Iver might be the single most perfect representative of what passes as "indie" these days. An awkward, pretentious, balding loser in brown shoes. Already too old, half as smart as he thinks he is, unwanted at the party. He got the same kind of applause you'd give the mentally challenged kid who made it through "Greensleeves" on the recorder.

Wife not a Twilight fan? Mars has the song that plays over the credits (following the teaser scene for the final installment). I know this 'cause I have seen the credits about 50 times -- & love casual references to opiate addiction finding their way into middle of the road pop culture moments.

While not arguing with anyone over the current Bon Iver record (which I have not yet heard), no with any single one of you, it's amazing the backlash and vitrol that he has be directed the was of Justin Vernon, in general from the "indie"/music geek community.
Just about all of you/all of us were cumming all over yourselves about For Emma....
And now?
Is it that the new record sucks, or are you/we just sick of him?
I, for one, still adore For Emma, Forever Ago, and will continue listening to it for the forseeable future.

i'm a huge fan of Emma. His second album does not deserve the praise it's/he's getting.

I know little to nothing of any of these people. I do remember seeing Mars perform somewhere and thinking he had talent, even if I didn't really care for what he was doing with it. Pretty much none of the performers mentioned are at all interesting to me, but that is pretty much what is expected of the Grammy's. I saw Bon Iver once, for a minute or so on Saturday Night Live, long enough to go on a mini rant before the girl I was with said she had just seen them live the week before. Horrible.

And Chris Brown ain't no Ike Turner, meaning he ain't nearly good enough to beat the shit out of his woman and get away with it.

Also agreed it was disgraceful for them to ignore Don Cornelius.

i saw bon iver at lollapalooza in 2009 and the only takeaway was that i'd been mispronouncing the name.

I still say it BONE IHVAIR. But I hear most say Boniver, to rhyme with Kuniva, of D12 fame.

In reality, it's actually pronouned BONOVOX.

You opened a thread called "Grammy's". Did you expect to find a discussion about Quorgthomg and Gashectomy?

She's seen it/read the books and may well know that, not sure. Mrs. Bloor generally has good taste in music (or rather, likes a lot of the same music that I do), but also likes The Pop.

I didn't see much of the show so I don't know whether it actually made the broadcast but Rebirth Brass Band won a grammy for best regional roots album. I think that's pretty cool.

A) Bruno Mars got busted for being on that white bag. Cool points.

B) Adele = Sexy Fat. I wanna bang her while she eats a whole cake, and I'm served a 64 oz Cowboy Ribeye on her back.

Bruno also gets "racial ambiguity" points.

& your Adele comment makes me think you might be ready to subscribe to NSFW.

The song is "It will rain". I cannot hear it enough. It hits me in the same spot as Goo Goo Dolls's "Name" & Sarah Mc Lachlan's "I Will Remember You".

In fact, I bet Bruno, Johnny Rzeznik, & Sarah Mc Lachlan could have quite a party. Cocaine, whisky, whatever it is Canadians do (moose-farts?)...

I'd prefer he face in the cake, but I'm not gonna quibble about it.

These guys are playing a couple of nights in DC coming up--my wife was talking about going so I checked them out, and though not really my thing, they are super talented for sure.

As I understand it, it's a new category this year. They basically merged about 5-7 previous categories including cajun/zydeco, native american, hawaiian, etc. into one and called it regional roots.

The only thing missing from Taylor Swift's new barefoot-and-pregnant look was the black eye. And Chris Brown was in the same building, dammit.

ah, that makes much more sense. thanks for clarifying.

all i knew is that latin jazz folks were up in arms over that category's axing, and then they reeled in people who slot into other categories.
