I think I listened to their earlier album but I don't remember much about it. I'm going to have to check them out again because the reviews make it sound like something I'd like.

Father John Misty - Fear Fun

the first '12 album to knock it out of the park for me. best thing J. Tillman has done yet.

of course me mentioning this all but ensures it goes ignored around here. at least check the video. it's got that cute chick from Parks and Rec

What's the deal with this? Is it a J. Tillman solo album under a new name? I liked the song from the video, but I haven't liked much from this dude since Cancer & Delirium.

The board this weekend has engaged in more allusion to Kev-Cost than anyone has in the previous five years. Combined.

yep, and it's really unlike his previous solo albums -- though i have to admit i've loved each and every one.

Musically, Fear Fun consists of such disparate elements as Waylon Jennings, Harry Nilsson, Arthur Russell, “All Things Must Pass,” and “Physical Graffiti,” often within the same song. Tillman’s voice has never been better and often sounds like Roy Orbison, “The Caruso of Rock”, at his most joyous, while the music maintains a dark, mysterious and yet conversely playful, almost Dionysian quality. Lyrically, his absurdist fever dreams of pain and pleasure elicit, in equal measures, the blunt descriptive power of Bukowski or Brautigan, the hedonist-philosophy of Oscar Wilde and the dried-out wit of Loudon Wainwright III.

I could barely stand a few tracks from his entire oeuvre. Almost every track on this is good. Enjoying his lyrical wit on this as well.

Easily the best thing he's ever done.

If you prefer his power pop side to his twangy country stuff, you'll dig this big time.

So far, both 2012 releases that I've picked up have been winners:
Cate Le Bon and Barry Adamson

Loving the new fun. easily twice as good as the debut. my favorite listen this year might be

dustin wong - dreams say, view, create, shadow leads

guitarist from ponytail, pure looped instrumental stuff heavy on melodic guitar parts, really good

also like the new lanegan

I've been looking for this. If you have a link, I'd appreciate it a lot. Thanks.

ooooh dude, dying to hear that. she completely won me over with a solo piano set at 4:30am in a church during dublab's all-night tonalism event. forever a fan.
