I was curious as to why so much effort went in to getting this First Aid Kit band. Tell me it's not this:

Quote:
First Aid Kit is a Swedish folk duo composed of sisters Johanna (b. 1990) and Klara (b. 1993) Söderberg, whose close vocal harmonies and woodsy, folk-influenced songwriting take influence from the likes of Fleet Foxes and Joanna Newsom.

See, if I had read that prior to listening, I probably wouldn't have. But I'm glad I did, good shit.

I did read it prior to listening, and now I can't get the comparison out of my head. May be unfair, but this is totally Joanna Newsom + Fleet Foxes. Thumbs down.

First of all, I don't really hear that at all. First Aid Kit have these tinges of country (almost kinda sounding Native America-na if there is such a thing) and their sound/harmonies are very basic instead of the lush dream of Fleet Foxes. I don't listen to Newsom that much - she's the elf with the really unique voice, yes?

Furthermore, First Aid Kit have been around for 4 years, and their old stuff sounds almost identical to their new stuff, so it's not like they're jumping on a trend.

To my great pleasure, the new Sleigh Bells is out there. However NAR only uses filepost now, which sucks immensely. Anybody wanna post or pm me a non-filepost link to this? TIA

Desperately looking for a link to that Sleigh Bells. Treats was one of my favorites of 2010.

Edit: May have found one

What a horrible cover for Alabama Shakes. Was hoping that was just temporary art.

Take it you've never seen them live?

Total tease Mcap. I've already pre-ordered the vinyl LP (which comes with the digital download for the album as well).

I'm tempted to do it but I'm going to wait. 8-)

Also, FYI, Jay Gonzalez (keyboard player for DBT) has a new solo record out and it's pretty sweet. I can't find a link but you can sample it here:

http://inflatablemusic.bandcamp.com/

It's 60's/70's powerpop AM gold type of stuff. Way different than what the Truckers do. Thought you might dig it. Definite first surprise of the year for me.

I really love it. Wife and I have copies in our cars. It nods towards Beatles, Cheap Trick, and Big Star. Really amazing his talent.
