This thread usually gets started 3-4 months earlier. All our teams must suck?

Anyway. Thoughts?

Washington, despite being young and a part of the horrible Pac 12, is hanging in there at 19-8. Currently tied for first at 11-3 in conference with 3 left to play, on the road, prior to the P12 tourney. Sadly, I expect they could lose 2 of 3 and be forced to win the conference tourney to get into the Dance. If they win 2 or 3 of the final 3 games then they might sneak into the tourney regardless.

Thoughts on your teams? I haven't been following the other leagues too closely so some of these teams may be out of the running, but off the top of my head: Georgia, Nebraska, Michigan St., Kansas, Oregon, Notre Dame, UCLA, NC St., Maryland, Cincy, Oregon St., Gonzaga, Wisconsin? I might be forgetting a few.

The Cornhuskers should be quietly looking for a new coach during the tournament, and may already have a short list of candidates in place.
The good news is that they blew out Illinois this weekend and have a win over a ranked Indiana squad this year, the bad news is that they lost to a lowly Penn State squad and are under .500 on the year.

I thought the Women's program might make a nice tournament run this year, but they are starting to crap out after getting ranked near the top ten.

Thanks Marco. Thought about starting this a few times now. Almost did after the first Duke/Carolina game.

I'm starting to get the scent of March in the air but for the most part I find this to be a really bad year for College Hoops. There are a handful of good teams but if you look at the Top 25, the is a pretty big drop after the first dozen or so. Begrudgingly I'd say the toughest conference this year is the Big 10. Traditional teams in the Big East like Villanova, Pitt, UConn, St. Johns are all terrible this year. The ACC is ridiculously top heavy once again much like the SEC with a BIG drop off after the first few.

I'm sure there will be some stories start to develop when the calendar turns to March but for now, it's been pretty uncompelling.

Then again, UGA is just playing out the string at this point. Lost 2 NBA talent players last year and we're struggling. Next season will be a pretty big referendum on Mark Fox. He HAS to land some talent or his days are numbered. Even in down years, UGA should at least be .500 in conference. We've just go too much in state talent, money, and resources.

I'm gonna jinx them by posting this, but ND has won eight straight and has climbed all the way up to (tied for) 2nd place in the Big East. During this streak, they handed (at the time) #1 Syracuse (now #2) their only loss of the season. Mike Brey is a helluva coach, especially considering this was supposed to be a rebuilding year even BEFORE their only good player and leading scorer/rebounder (Abromaitis) went down early with a season-ending injury.

They're not going to make the Final Four or anything, but it's an enjoyable run they're on right now.

Lunardi's got them up to a 6 seed on the latest Bracketology.

NC State's on the wrong side of the bubble, but just being anywhere adjacent to the bubble is nice after the past 5 dismal years. Probably won't make the tournament this year, but things are looking up with 3 McD's AA coming in next year (with a pretty good shot at a 4th). It's just nice to see some actual semblance of an offensive system and coaching this year.

would love to see my Jayhawks make a very deep run, but this ain't the year. i adore thomas robinson but i think he's a bit overhyped when it comes to POY talk. no matter we still need a larger presence in the paint & jeff withey with his terrible hands is not the answer. t taylor has heated up since late-december but i'm not confident he can sustain this scoring guard play (not to mention leadership) into the tourney. please prove me wrong. i'll be satisfied with an elite eight finish - and i say this now, but...

Kentucky & UNC will be the teams to beat. i'm totally unfazed by the 'heels losses - roy will have them ready. both are stacked with wicked good NBA prospects, but I don't see Calipari finally getting over the hump & winning a championship. I think it's a powder blue year. fuck you, putin.

Yes! I've got a good feeling about this team... despite their frequent tendency to fall behind early.

Terps had a nice win over Miami last night, but the post-Gary years are off to a pretty tepid start. i guess that's to be expected. they are a very young team. Stoglin looks like the real deal; put some good work in on Len in the offseason and he could be a solid stud for the next few years. we'll see how Turgeon does with it all. on one hand, i'm pleased to see that they could keep pace with Duke and UNC for 3/4 of a game, but then they completely throw up a turd scoring only 13 second half points vs. UVA.

By which I mean, you say the 'Hoos gave up 13 points, & it's just as likely they only scored 19 or 20 themselves.

Will be in the front row at tonight's Marquette game. In the corner, but still front row. And against Rutgers, but hey... still front row!

The inevitable battling of Martin & his mentor, Huggy Bear, will be a sight, too.

I only hope K-State isn't re-assigned to be KU's intraconference rival, so that we can instead get two (2!) KSU-WVU matches each basketball season. I mean, just stick KU with Iowa State, or something...

If you're anywhere near Steve "The Homer" True on press-row, give him the wanking motion like that kid did to Gottlieb.

(I love Homer as an announcer, but as a human, he's hot garbage.)
