In Memory of Don Drummond

This collection of instrumental tracks featuring Drummond's trombone is pretty great. The LP doesn't have much info about when these songs were recorded and I've not come up with much online when I got curious and poked around a bit. Seems they mostly range from the early ska days to perhaps even earlier, some as early as 1957. Lots of nice grooves and simmering ska rhythms throughout most of the songs with a definite jazz sensibility. If you like classic ska instrumentals, this is a great one to snap up.

Let's just say I was curious.

Just listened to the final masters of my new EP. I'll need to give it another couple of listens, on other systems, but the first listen sounds great. Not long until it's good to go.

Prince Jammy Destroys the Invaders

Been in reggae mode of late so here's another. One of my personal favorite all-time dub records. It's on the sparse and spacey side as the title and cover would lead you to believe. A few Space Invaders sounds lightly in the intros and fade's but mostly just deep, deep unadorned dub tracks from beginning to end.

Okay, so it's not the actual collection, but a 10-track compilation culled from it. Still... it's pretty great.

Didn't take long. One listen. This is right in my wheelhouse.
Was it you who put this tenner together? If so, thank you! Love this.

Yes & you're welcome.

How's the second day of listening to the mastered ep?

Lilacs & Champagne

Momentarily off the reggae kick for this moody, sample-based electronic album. I've seen this compared to Flying Lotus, which makes a bit of sense in the way of both being cut and paste constructions, but this is a lot less beat inspired, more atmospheric and quite a bit more gloomy. I'm guessing this may become a late-night summer staple.
