the gentleman jesse link that was working yesterday is a mess with tracks cutting out, skipping, completely different songs dropped into the tail end of tracks, etc. what i can get out of it sounds pretty good, though.

Yeah I tried two versions and they both did that. I'll probably just end up buying it at the show when they play here in may.

I realized that Gentleman Jesse sounds a lot like Tom Petty yesterday.

Like most bands, Australia’s Hoodoo Gurus were largely the product of their influences; unlike most bands, however, the Hoodoos channeled their inspiration from the vast entirety of the American pop cultural landscape, drawing on such disparate sources as B-movies, bad sitcoms, and junk food — in tandem with the usual suspects like garage rock, power pop, and surf — to create a distinctly kitschy and catchy sound. Formed in Sydney in 1981, Le Hoodoo Gurus (as they were originally dubbed) were led by singer/songwriter Dave Faulkner, who along with drummer James Baker previously served as a member of the short-lived Perth punk unit the Victims (best known for the autobiographical single “Television Addict”). Gold Watch: 20 Golden Greats released to coincide with the 30th Anniversary of the release of their debut single, “Leilani” [1982]. With nine albums over a twenty year career, the beloved Gurus never felt the need to churn them out and here they have not felt the need to shy away from the fact that their first two albums were and are bona fide classics (7 of the twenty songs here come from Stone Age Romeos and Mars Needs Guitars). Opening with the ferocious new single “Use-By Date” and featuring 19 of their all-time classic hits such as “My Girl” [1983], “What’s My Scene?” [1987], “Come Anytime” [1989], “1000 Miles Away” [1991], “Waking Up Tired” [1996] and “Crackin’ Up” [2010] to name a few, the album is a time-capsule of highlights from the momentous career of the ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) Hall of Fame inductees.

Just pre-ordered it for my wife. But, judging by the title track, I may wanna snag it to rip into my iTunes, too:

Latest blast of psychedelic proto metal blues rock heaviness from these retro rockers, their second for Siltbreeze (which still seems like a weird home for these guys), which finds the band continuing to hone a sound that is disturbingly (and we mean that in a good way) indistinguishable from the real deal.

We’d be hard pressed to pick these guys out of a name-that-tune style lineup with a batch of genuine seventies hard rock outfits. The sound, the songs, the vocals, the production, this is total hard / blues / southern rock nirvana for folks who dig shit like Humble Pie, Zeppelin, Cream, ZZ Top, Skynrd, Ten Years After and the like. And Jerusalem – as we mentioned in our review of the first MC, the singer sounds a whole lot like the guy from Jersualem.

And while you might imagine this Ohio combo must be tongue-in-cheeking it, nothing could be further from the truth, this is the real deal, or as real as it gets circa 2012. And while the usual Siltbreeze fanbase might find this a bit too, well, classic rock, for everybody else, this stuff is pretty tough to resist, slithery riffage, hard rocking grooves, hooks galore, killer leads, stoney jams and some serious psychedelic heaviness.

I'm a fanboy but this might be his best album and is probably the 2nd best 2012 release I've heard so far.
