I understand im using the term nu-metal loosely here. If you disagree with these bands being lumped together, just pick your favorite.

Tool is my favorite band on the planet, and they're overdue. Apparently, Maynard's spending a lot of time with his winery.

I liked Tool in high school so they get the nod, not sure they are nu-metal though.

Coming from the metal-world, I'd say that only Disturbed and Korn, and early Deftones are considered nu-metal, but you made your disclaimer...

My vote is Deftones.

Not surprised to see Tool and Deftones running away with it, though I'm surprised there are no votes for SoaD.

I voted Tool.

I guess I never thought of Deftones and Tool as nu metal, since they were around before the term was widely used. When I think of nu-metal/hot topic/late 90s I think of System of a Down being the best of the bunch.

i have the lone vote for Disturbed. They just hit the spot for me musically and lyrically. They have a real knack for melody. Love SoaD too, and am also surprised they havent gotten more votes.

I watched the singer of Disturbed try and pick up a 15 year old girl at a show during their first record tour, proceed to get laughed at by the girl. then go backstage to get ready for the band's performance...His gimmick at the time (not sure since then), was to be wheeled out to the front of the stage Hannibal Lechter style (with full on straight jacket and face mask)....I could never take the band seriously after that.

Tool is one of the top 5 most overrated bands of all time, unlistenable shit.

Where did this poll come from? Also, you left out the Bizkit--who will always be the ultimate face of nu-metal.

Ill Niño came through our college and being on the radio station staff, got to hang out with them a little. Were nice guys, and probably (imo, the most palatable of the nu metal bands I heard). Speaking of that era, I remember being the MD and getting tons upon tons of crappy nu metal albums in the mail every day. Literally, 100s that we just threw out or gave away. Not even the metal shows would take them. It was definitely witnessing how a style gets some airplay and then tons of bands latch on hoping to get discovered.

Don't PopTodd & the lead singer of Disturbed go to the same Temple, or something?

In which case, I have to give the Obner love to Disturbed. (Though, secretly, I prefer Deftones.)
