Young Magic: Melt

Saw these guys last night, opening for Bear in Heaven (who were really good live and feature a fantastic drummer). They had this release on cassette for five bucks so I figured I'd pick it up as I enjoyed their set. It's a mish-mash of global rhythms and spacey electronics. A bit shoe-gazey at times, a bit of that vague hip hop influence due more to construction than the final sounds. I'll keep listening to this for a while.

Stars of the Lid: And Their Refinement of the Decline

One of my absolute favorite ambient drone albums. More avant/modern classical in sound and structure than anything, uses cello and violins to augment the drones. Stark, minimal. If you like ambient music it's a must hear.

Was listening to that the other day. Love it. Remember when it came across my desk in college. Glad I gave it a chance.
