Just ran into them on a drummer cross reference with the Tyde.

Is there an essential album to start with here. Most have gotten decent reviews.

I think most fans would recommend Teenage Symphonies to God. I bought that years ago based on having them recommended to me frequently based on my liking Teenage Fanclub and Matthew Sweet. I thought it was pretty bland vanilla, powerless power pop and quickly sold it back. Derris is right though -- if you want the perspective of a fan rather than a hater, Todd is your man.

I've only heard In the Presence of Greatness, but I think it's definitely one worth checking out.

Yeah, I remember TStG being 'the one'.

Yes, Teenage Symphonies to God is the one.

Wasn't as much a fan of Heavy Changes, which kinda stopped me from picking up any other albums of theirs after just those two. Still TStG is a wonderful record... M. Sweet power pop, infused with Gene Clark and Gram Parsons.

But now, this thread has me wanting to delve back into their catalog a little bit more. Soft Sounds is supposed to be pretty great, too. So I guess that I should give it a shot sometime soon.
