Just concentrated on used stuff. Big score was the Duke Ellington 70th birthday concert.

It would take me at least $40 worth of gas to "haul" my sticks-living ass to the nearest record store.

I didn't pick up much. Frankly I wasn't willing to fight the line that was literally 2 blocks long, being let in 10 at a time, for the special releases. However, I did grab a couple records out of the dollar pile, The Dramatics: Joy Ride and Kid Creole & the Coconuts: Wise Guy. Also grabbed a Jackie Mittoo album, Evening Time which is pretty great and a copy of The Kinks: Kronikles.

But for me, the most fun of the day, and something I may actually run back up and double or triple down on tomorrow since the place selling them is holding events all weekend and started Friday night, was the 45 case stocked with about 40 or so soul 45s. They had boxes crammed full of these for 15 bucks a pop. Great stuff, Al Green, Johnnie Taylor, James Brown, Johnnie Otis, Jackson Five, Bar Kays, Buddy Miles and tons more of well-known and obscure artists ranging from the 50s through the 70s. They're not in perfect shape by any means and no covers of course, but they all have been playing fine if a bit scratchy so far. Exactly the sort of reason it is fun to have a vintage table with all the accessories... like the 45 stacker spinning right now and shown in the pic.

i was ready to blow about 50 bucks but i decided about fifteen minutes into it that i'd rather just be there on a normal week.

wanted to go get the The Cult 7" picture vinyl, but didn't make it out of the house after a cold rainy soccer game. (My son scored 2 goals in their 4-3 win. :))

I got that Mclusky reissue, a way-overpriced Capt. Beefheart double 7", that Animal Collective thing (because it was one of the few LPs that was under $15), and the Deerhoof/Of Montreal split 7".

This is the first year I've bothered to try to get any of the RSD stuff. I primarily set out to get the Mclusky thing, and I did. It was $19, but that wasn't too bad compared to what a lot of the other stuff I saw was going for. I want to say that Criminal Records had that Detroyer album for like $25, and I saw that Flaming Lips thing for $40 somewhere else. I would have bought it, but no way was I paying that much. I missed out on the Unrest box, but the guy at Wax'N Facts told me they were selling them for $50. I would never pay that for a single album broken up into 7"s even though I'm sure it was a very nice package and all.

I spent the day at the skatepark and I forgot to go. My local record store guy did sell me the new Social Distortion (with autographed poster) early, so technically I participated.

I was kinda interested in the Lee Perry 7" box of Blackboard Jungle Dub, but the more I thought about it the more I realized the odds of my pulling out the 3, 7" records when I can jut play the album without the extra hassle is pretty damn slim. Maybe once just for kicks the day I bring it home. And that is from a guy who enjoys singles as shown above. Singles for songs you don't have otherwise or for mixes and that sort of thing I think are fun. But a 7" box for an album really doesn't make sense as anything but a collectible.

Completely missed out. Wanted that DFA1979 but didn't pull the trigger, and none of my local stores participated so I would have had to drive to Denver or Boulder to actually get anything.

If you post a picture, I might be able to stop by my store to see if they have it in stock for you. They had at least 4 more of The Cult discs in the bin, but I bet nobody wanted them, lol. Now I need to get a record player. :P

Retail is Canada only, the only way for others to get it is to buy online.

I didn't get to go this year. Really the only thing I heard about in the way of RSD exclusives I was interested in was the Devo live album. I'll see if I can get my hands on that still, but if not, I have plenty of stuff to listen to that hasn't got enough attention.

i went to permanent records (chicago). they've had a pretty nice midnight party the last few years. it's a good setup for people who are only there for RSD releases and those of us who do a little normal shopping. i also went to dusty groove and hyde park records saturday afternoon. the big stores get way too jammed up here and it's amateur hour. one of my friends waited in line for two hours and then they didn't even have the 3 records she was looking for.

i picked up the white stripes' "hand springs" b/w "red death at 6:14" 7" reissue, the pows' once with snot & blood LP, beach house's "lazuli" b/w "equal mind" 7" and trouble in mind's 4-way covers split with mikal cronin, apache dropout, the paperhead and the limiñanas. i also got a lot of good non-RSD stuff.
