FRAK: Muzika Electronic

Swedish duo FRAK walks a fine line between electronic dance and experimental music. They have been around since 1987, mostly releasing things on the Swedish Börft label that specializes in electronic music. This one is on Digitalis, is quite excellent, and comes on some fancy green vinyl.

Bellari VP530, tube buffer stage and a usb output. I'm really happy with it, but I got it used super cheap. For the money they want for them new nowadays, may be better options out there and the gain is fairly low. Sounds good to me though and I do like having the usb out for burning vinyl to the computer so I'd recommend the thing if you come across one used or discounted. It also has a headphone output with volume control which can be nice.

It sorta sounds like 90-ish, indie rock (Yuck). The lead singers voice is kinda yelpy. Pitchfork said he sounds like Frank Black, which sounds about right. I didn't enjoy it as much as their debut but it's only my first listen.

Lavas Magmas: Toxic Communion
Harsh, beat-less noise and drone. If you are into this sort of thing, this is a really good tape. Lots of low end though so I really don't suggest listening to it on a laptop or such. Half the music just disappears without some bass output. Starts out with a lot of sputtering glitchy stuff until the bass pulses come in and fill the whole thing out nicely. There's a .wav file of the whole thing available if you click the picture above.

Glorious white noise in the space between hums and drones.

That Elah is pretty great and also has some serious bass. Cranked that up while driving once and could barely see in my rear view mirror it was shaking so much.

Ha. There are certain frequencies that really vibrate my sternum. It's great for an aging body.

Off!: S/T

Got this yesterday. If you care you have probably made your decision on this band. More hardcore 81 from some old boys. Just as good as the debut singles, maybe a touch more variety on a couple tracks, but you know what you're getting. This shit will wake you up in the morning. White vinyl at 45rpm.
