Death Grips: The Money Store
This one has surprised me. When I first heard these guys I thought it was a bit jarring and had an exciting feel that I figured would wear off pretty quickly. Yet somehow, this one has just kept growing on me. You kind of settle into the world of the record and the jarring sensation recedes and you just start to enjoy the songs. A friend of mine compared this to Sleigh Bells, which on the surface doesn't exactly fit in many ways, but I think it is a valid comparison in the way both groups just throw everything and the kitchen sink to blast you into sensory overload and then you kind of pick up on the more catchy, melodic bits once you are submerged into it. Where Sleigh Bells do it with a guitar squall, Death grips do it with a mix of hip hop and electronic noise beats and experimental sounds. I'm digging this.

Nobunny: Raw Romance
Cassette only release from 2009 that has since been reissued on CD and it'ss well worth hunting down if you're a Nobonny fan. It's still catchy and lo fi, but he's in a much more relaxed mode here, even tossing in a couple country tinged numbers along with acoustic versions of songs like Mess Me Up and I Am A Girlfriend. A more relaxed release from 2010. A nice listen before heading out for afternoon drinks.

Some will call heresy, but I like it more than Dog Man Star.
