Chromatics: Kill for Love

Drenched in murky reverb and synths, this is a nice mix of atmospheric bits and pieces with a few catchy moments rising up out of the haze, namely the fantastic title track for one. Personally, I could do without the Neil Young cover that opens the disc, but not a big deal and not too distracting from what I consider a really great listen. Makes a good late summer night soundtrack. Also, if you complain about how much music costs, they are selling the CDs for $5 at the Italians Do It Better label website. Go get your Paypal on.

Reminds me of this album cover. A lot.:

If the sound is similar, I may have to check it out. I really liked that Scruffy the Cat album.
But going on your description, I don't think that it is much the same.

I've been curious but scared. Will I just be disappointed if I listen to the new Joey Ramone?

Probably more than disappointed. From what I know, Joey's brother Mickey Leigh took the tapes away from Daniel Rey and from the sounds of it, Mickey likes MOR hair metal a little more than punk. Joey still sounds like Joey, but the production and mix don't suit the songs at all.

Also, I've already deleted that Cory Branan album. Blech.

Was afraid of that. This thing has cash in with leftover crap written all over it.

that Plankton Wat is heady chill-out music
read more here: http://www.thrilljockey.com/thrill/Plankton-Wat/Spirits
and listen here: http://3voor12.vpro.nl/luisterpaal/albu ... n-Wat.html

Quote:
Plankton Wat is the solo guise of Dewey Mahood, known for his work in Eternal Tapestry, Gärden Söund (w/Barn Owl), Edibles, Bloodbiker, and Jackie-O Motherfucker. Spirits is Plankton Wat’s debut multi-format release, following an LP release on DNT and many sold out cassettes and CDrs on imprints such as Sloow Tapes, Digitalis, Blackest Rainbow, Sweat Lodge Guru and Stunned.

I'm not one to attempt to keep up with tape or CD-R labels (he's known in those circles), but this album serves it's purpose in the same way that some John Fahey, William Tyler and Bill Frisell does for me. Guitar-based chill-out/background music.

Aphex Twin: Selected Ambient Works 85-92
An all-time favorite electronic music selection and an absolute classic ambient techno record. If you like idm, ambient, electronic, techno or whatever you've already either listened to this or you're a serious slacker. This is the remastered vinyl from R&S put out in 2006. Sounds better to me than the CD versions I listened to before grabbing this. The originals are too rare and expensive for my blood so I can't say what good the remastering does compared to the original vinyl. I was just happy when they re-issued this version.
