Been getting into the new Delay album. RIYL: Weakerthans and maybe the Thermals, if they were both from Ohio.

I dig that song. Not sure on the others, only sampled them and some seemed middling, but I will give it a full on eventually.

Isn't Butch Vig almost 60, though?

Got a late start to his band blowing up phase....

Bob Dylan’s 35th album coming soon

Now 71 years young, Bob Dylan will reportedly release his 35th studio album as soon as September, according to the Dylan fan site Isis Magazine.

Isis reports that recording took place earlier this year with members of Dylan’s touring band and David Hidalgo, who “had been brought in primarily to play accordion and guitar… but ended up adding Mexican instruments.” The end result reportedly spans 10 tracks, including one about the Titanic that’s 14 minutes long. Another track is said to clock in at nine minutes.

David Hidalgo involved? Yes, please.

2012 album from the Irish singer/songwriter and former Energy Orchard main man. The album was produced by Rock legend Mark Knopfler. Knopfler adds his distinctive guitar alongside other luminaries such as Jerry Douglas, Michael McGoldrick and John McCusker on a more folky sounding record.

Disk 2 is bonus disk of 11 cuts from previous Kennedy albums, selected by the artist.

I've been listening to this album a lot--it's quite good. Thanks for the heads up.

Dean Owens - New York Hummingbird

Couldn't find a write up of this album that I liked but here's some general info on him.

AMG Wrote:
Singer-songwriter and guitarist Owens was a member of the popular Scottish country rock unit the Felsons, helping the band record three acclaimed albums in the late 90s. His 2001 solo debut resulted from sessions in a lochside cottage in the Highlands of Scotland with Felsons bass player Kevin McGuire, recorded directly onto a portable DAT machine. Released with a minimum of cleaning up and overdubbing, the album was a delightful lo-fi excursion that was high on atmosphere and low on artifice. Owens spent the next two years on the road, spending a large amount of time in the USA touring with the Mavericks, Steve Earle, Emmylou Harris and Chip Taylor. His next album, 2004’s My Town, was recorded with a stellar cast list of guest musicians including former Flying Burrito Brothers pedal steel guitarist Al Perkins, the Nashville-based singer-songwriter Will Kimbrough, and Scottish artist Karine Polwart. The album was an accomplished Americana collection with a lyrical heart set firmly in Owens’ native Scotland.

Owens decamped to Nashville to record the 2007 follow-up Whisky Hearts, with Perkins and Kimbrough again on hand to help out alongside the ex-Mavericks rhythm section of Paul Deakin and Robert Reynolds. This thoughtful, melodic and thoroughly engaging album was hailed as one of the finest singer-songwriter releases of the year.

This one was was recorded in NY and has a little more of an acoustic pop singer/songwriter feel and much less of an americana/roots feel to it. I'm a big fan of his though and would encourage folks to check him out. It may seem like an odd RIYL for a Scottish artist, but he reminds me a bit of Paul Kelly. He's apparently working on an album of Johnny Cash covers that he also plans to release later this year.

For most of the year, I would have called this my favorite album of 2012. I still might. I've heard a bunch of things I've really liked lately though and haven't really thought much about it. If you like this though, track down Whisky Hearts from 2007, it's even better.
