A former mobster turned FBI-informant who inspired the 1990 Martin Scorsese movie Goodfellas has died at the age of 69.

Henry Hill, who was immortalised by Ray Liotta in the film, passed away in an LA hospital after a long battle with an undisclosed illness, TMZ reported.

Hill testified about New York mob murders and crime rings in 1980. He was initially in the federal witness protection programme, but was removed in 1990 after a series of drug arrests.

Hill's long-time manager and girlfriend, Lisa Caserta, told the New York Post: "He had a heart attack around the 27th of May, and he went into the hospital and it was really touch-and-go for a long time."

The father-of-two had also suffered from bad circulation, caused by smoking, she said.

Hill has had a history of alcohol-related arrests. In 2009 he told AP: "I've been on every drug humanly possible, and I can't get a handle on alcohol."

In reference to the film to which his lost, for Best Picture, we would also accept Dances with Fishes.

"You want some fuck-o?"

"Don't shoot!"

Hundreds of great scenes.

EVERY scene is fucking perfection. A film lover's wet dream. I distinctly remember my dad renting this, and letting me watch it with him and my older sister. I was transfixed. It's probably why I have such terrible and awesome taste in movies. It either has to be watchable trash ala 80s action or the best movie ever made for me to like it.
