for the record, i find this artist only marginally interesting.

for this type of thing, i'd rather actively listen to krill.minima or lusine ICL.

all of which are Related Artist finds spawned from Mr. Projectile.

who i found out about via one of Dalen's mixes.

whose great grandfather was a Knight Templar.

it's all connected, see...

Yeah, I'm kinda with Billy here. I'm reverting more and more to old style listening. I'm not messing with things like Spotify too much, although I will still use Pandora from time to time since my TV streams it in the bedroom so if I'm too lazt to go put something on, I'll just flip the switch there. I did try Spotify out a couple times, nice enough for in the car or something like that. Like Pandora but you get to pick more what you play when you want so it is nice like that. I do think eventually these sorts of services will be how most music is delivered on a pay-subscription basis. And with the radio turning to complete garbage it is good to have someplace to hear new stuff played so I like the services at least occasionally for that moreso than to listen to stuff I already dig, although I always have heard more new music from people I know than the radio anyway.

Oh, and Nils Frahm is pretty great. If you haven't heard his Juno 7", you should check it out.

I'm using it for new stuff (currently listening to Minnesota band Now, Now from hearing them on the All Songs Best of Half Year podcast earlier) as well as listening to older things I never got around to (like D'Angelo's Voodoo the other day). Haven't used the related artists function yet either. Also, Mrs. Guns Holla forced me to box up my cd's and haul then to storage yesterday so I'll be using it for a "hey, I haven't listened to that in a while" listening.

I hardly ever use it as I'm similar to Billy. I just don't have much of an opportunity at work, and when I'm at home, I'm going to listen on a stereo.

Having said that, I do use it occasionally on break at work, and have listened to some albums I've had on my wish list a long time. I haven't used the "related artists" feature, and didn't even know about it, but I will likely use it to find stuff I'm just starting to explore.

Can literally listen for 6 hours a day at work, so that's wonderful. But then when I go home, I put on a record. And since the wife scored those 2 big boxes of 70's vinyl off the curb last week, I have something new to try out everytime.

I'm using it to find new artists, and I'm a related artist junkie. I listen to it all-day at work, and use it sometimes as a virtual HD for my music, so I don't have to lug it around (or keep track of my ipod). The fact that it scrobbles is amazing as well.

Much easier to check out new records. If I like, I buy.

I use it more for sampling stuff than actual listening. (I still don't pay for it so I can't deal with the adds when listening at length.)

I don't know, for some reason I've just been really hesitant to fully embrace this. It presents a change in my listening habits which would require me to pretty much abandon some conscious choices I made a while back about spending more time with fewer things rather than always trying to hear something new. Using Spotify to listen to the same handful of things would seem to defeat the purpose of it. That, and it doesn't quite have EVERYTHING I want to hear. I'd say somewhere between 10-20% of what I want to listen to isn't on there.

I have never paid a nickel, and have listened to 6 hours a day 5 days a week for several months without hearing an ad.

You're lucky. I hear an ad after about every 3 songs.

So when I launch it, that box comes up that wants me to either log in or "Not Listen To Music." But there's a red X at the top right to just close that notice without giving in to the false choice it presents. Just close the dialog box. Music. No ads.

Is that it?

I had no idea it even played ads to other people. I'm really curious how I dodged it.

for the stuff that's not on there, throw it in iTunes and it comes up on Spotify.

Mine plays an ad maybe once an album. Usually after the last song has ended.

The Android update is really awesome. You can now download a playlist so you can listen to it offline and even pick the quality of the download...so, if you know where those files are, couldn't you just put them on your computer?

I used the Related Artist thing on the phone today as well. Pretty cool, thanks for the tip.

And I use it mainly to check out new stuff or stuff I haven't heard by artists I maybe only have 1 or 2 records of.

Also good for: having any song at your fingertips music discussions on the podcast.

Making a shared playlist of songs to cover for Derris' wedding after-party.

Basically, I'm fully on board. And my chick likes it so I get no complaints about another expense I "need" to survive.
