Well, I think that's why my respect for him has grown. I haven't seen It Might Get Loud, but I have seen instances where he seemed to be an arrogant asshole. Maybe it's kids, or having gone through a divorce, or just being in a place now where he's happy, but he didn't come off that way at all to me in the WTF interview. There's a part in there about how he and Meg were such huge fans of Loretta Lynn that they went through her house/museum and that's how he came to come in contact with her to eventually produce her record. He came off as grateful for getting the opportunity to do such a thing.

Also, his discussion about recording only in analog, without expressly saying most recordings today are compressed pieces of shit, really drew me in.

I'm also a big fan of Maron's interviews. He has a way of getting past the bullshit, and getting to things that the interviewees really have an emotional attachment to or engagement with.

His interview with Craig Finn was terrible though. I haven't heard the Jack White one but I mostly agree with you on Maron--I'm a fan.

Just saw this video. The song is terrible, but I like ASAP Rocky so I watched it. He's supposed to be JFK and she's supposed to be Marilyn/Jackie O. The whole thing is weird.

Anybody who enjoys pre-The Greatest Cat Power has no place to suggest Lana del Rey is TURRBLE.

& even though I have given the latest Sharon van Etten a chance -- after being won by her contribution to a Tom Petty/Stevie Nicks cover over at the ONION a/v club's "Under Cover" project (Sharon van Ettenwater/Shearwater van Etten -- "Stop dragging my heart around") -- I will admit anybody who enjoys van Etten doesn't have any place to suggest del Rey is TURRBLE either.

I think you have a point. I also find Von Etten the worst of the bunch and think Cat Power is pretty boring.

Chan's only boring when she's trying to be somebody else's idea of a rock n' roll singer.

Me either. I really like her debut but didn't quite get the initial raves for this one but it's been a consistently rewarding listen for me. Def a grower.

To me, it's all very reminiscent of "Stories from the City.." era PJ Harvey which most folks here love.

Not only do I not get the hate, but I don't get the comparison to Lana Del Ray.

The Van Etten album from this year sounds kinda like the Wye Oak album from last year. It's pleasant. I guess some people get really pissed off by pleasantness, inoffensiveness, tastefulness, and competence? Like, is Sharon Van Etten being raved about somewhere that I don't know about? Is she (or anybody) somehow being shoved down people's throats in 2012 when you're pretty much never subjected to anything you don't want to hear unless it's your kids' music or something playing in the background in a store, bar, etc.? Like if this kind of thing bothers you that much, how can you stand to listen to any kind of radio at all?

I think Stories from the Sea is the giant clunker in PJs catalog. But I wouldn't say I hate any of the albums discussed, just that they are Omw no better than the others and all fairly middling and boring.

Pleasant enough is probably pretty accurate for the bunch of em.

My coherent understanding of time has been howitzered into such a state of confusion by professional and personal concerns that I only know what day it is by adhering to a strict regimen of chronologically ordered clothing.

A blue shirt and blue stripped tie means it is Tuesday, a sky blue check shirt with the blue stripped tie means it is Wednesday, while a white shirt with navy blue tie with pink dots means it is Thursday.

Friday and Saturday are 'casual' days at the office so a Sonic Youth t-shirt and jeans means it is Friday while a red, blue and white checked Ben Sherman button shirt and Levi's means it is Saturday.

If I find myself wearing nothing but my underpants and a sticky film comprising a deplorable admixture of my own drool and 80 percent grain alcohol I know it is Sunday and if I find myself as above for a second day in a row I know it is Laundry Day.

Hence I return to the start of the cycle.

Seriously. Although she now has the Taint of Crooze. Still, maybe she'll go buck and make questionable acting decisions.

Regardless, everyone knows he's insane. And, in the closet.

Another Go or Pieces of April would be great.

But I anticipate her shift back into acting (granted, she did that haunted house film with Guy Pearce, & Jack & Jill, while married to Cruise -- but, come on...) will be as a second lead in a Judd Apatow comedy. Or Quentin Tarantino farce.

She was good in Wonder Boys and Thank You For Smoking but yeah, she's never been a true leading lady.

Also, wasn't there some atrocity with Queen GARtifah somewhere in there?

New album from Baroness "Yellow and Green" due soon. If you plan to buy it, you can get it with an autographed booklet here
