The irony of the comment is killing me.

I get that its upsetting. But hate for hate is not going to move anything anywhere.

sorry but the false equivalency thing is getting old. we need to recognize that we still have government sanctioned discrimination operating in 2012. treat it as the stain and disgrace that it is.

And that's fine...but hate is being perpetuated by hate. And, its a vicious circle.

Dale, I love you but that was (even in jest) a bit over the line.

And, I knew it was in jest--but here's the thing:

I know how people view me automatically when I say I'm a Christian. I also know that I've got an uphill battle when it comes to communicating to people that I'm all about loving everyone. And, that's not just a religious bias but also a jaded society outlook. But I personally always do try to be loving towards everyone I come in contact with. And so, when I see something about hate--it hurts me not on a personal level--but on a "wow, is this how people think we live our lives" type of thought.

Mosty this whole thread is silly.

But Rabbit kid, you are not a "christian" who represents all christians. You are a certain kind of christian with a belief system that is unique to you. I am a christian, but disagree with you often. The Westboro Baptist Church are christians... but neither you nor I agree with much of what they say and do. You may not be "targeted" because you are christian, but rather because of the specifics, the content, of the positions you espouse.

Selah.

Harry, I get you--but its also the internet and I wasn't going to espouse about Christian/Jesus follower, or the semantics of each. I'm speaking specifically to the connotation that comes when someone says they believe in Jesus. I know you are well aware that in our culture if someone says "Christian" a certain image comes up in that person's mind. Same as if I said "Yankees fan" or "truck driver".

And, Harry I realize I don't represent all Christians. I'm not Jesus. But when I speak or act, it will represent Christians to someone. Its like the Jesus fish issue. Say you have a Jesus fish on the back of your car. Someone cuts you off, you get angry and flip them off. Someone sees you do it--automatically because you have a Jesus fish that person is thinking hypocrite. Just so we're clear I'm not running for the hills screaming persecution. On the flipside, I actually think we (umbrella term for "the church") need to be more aware of our actions. Be more deliberate.

Target was probably a poor word choice, but there definitely is a certain idea of what a Christian is to many people. And the thing about it is, I don't blame a lot of those people for their feelings. They've been hurt, lied to, abused, etc. So, to say that when one says they are a Christian/Jesus Follower/etc doesn't come with baggage in another person's eyes? I disagree.

This should be a new philosophy for life.

It's up there with "It's a pool man, shit gon' get wet" for the most enlightened statement I've heard this century.

You know who else had one of those?

Miley Cyrus.

Sorry, just trying to bring some "music" talk into this discussion.

Also, I wish there had been a typo in the thread title with the word "coke."
