I was supposed to have it a month or so ago and they give you a number to call the day before and when I called they said I didn't need to report. Not sure how that happened.

My wife got selected for a jury trial, was elected foreman, and without any nefarious intent got a friend of a friend of mine off on dui charges.

In CA at least, the judge provides an estimate for how long the trial is likely to last. If you have a legitimate reason (eg you're self employed and it would seriously harm your business and ability to pay your bills, your employer doesn't reimburse and you can't afford to serve that long, you're a student and can't miss your classes), the judge will excuse you. If you try to find some transparent BS excuse why you can't make it or even worse why you couldn't be impartial, you're likely to just piss off the judge and maybe get your ass reassigned to an even worse court. My angle was always to wear a very conservative suit and tie and hope for an early defense atty strike. Worked well for a long time, mostly in trials where some poor black or hispanic defendant was on trial for theft, drugs or assault. Last time I got called though was for a kiddy diddler trial and I almost got put on the jury for that. Defense atty was used his strikes on people with kids and prosecutor used his on the dumb. Luckily, the defendent accepted a plea before it went to trial but it took 3 days before that happened. Good luck.

Yeah, my various law enforcement/political connections have always got me off the hook. It helps to have relatives who work for the county sheriff and with the state patrol.

I only just got jury duty for the first time this year. I was an alternate, which means I had to sit through the trial and then once they were sure they had enough jurors, I was dismissed. Totally sucked. I was 100% sure that raping fucktard was guilty and it ended up in a hung jury I found out. I wanted to be in that room and try my damnedest to make sure that fucker was found guilty. At least they found him guilty of two assault charges, they just somehow then thought once he locked her in a room and her kids heard her screaming and the cops showed up, broke down the door and found her cowering and naked, I'm sure he wouldn't possibly have raped her. After all, the defense attorney said she liked it rough. So yeah, if you have a fucking brain and get called, go do your duty. Our legal system will be the better for it.
