Jon Brion is playing at Largo tomorrow night so I thought I'd look at his facebook page to see if there was any info on who would be playing with him. Turns out he has one of those artist pages that has nothing but his wikipedia bio on it. Strangely, the Bio listed an early band and album I've never heard of.

Brion Wikipedia Wrote:
In the early 1980s, Brion and musician/producer Bill Murphy began a writing collaboration in New Haven, Connecticut. They eventually enlisted bassist Don "Riff" Fertman and together formed The Bats, (not to be confused with the New Zealand group of the same name). The Bats released a single, "Popgun" and one album How Pop Can You Get?, on Gustav records in 1982. The recordings had much critical acclaim, but little commercial success, and the trio eventually disbanded.

Any one have it or heard it? It's available for mp3 download via amazon and itunes and emusic. Samples didn't sound that great to me (kinda dated pop production) but I hate to judge anything based on short samples. So what sez obner? POD? mcaputo? z (if he's still around)? mcaputo? radcliffe? anyone? anyone?

I know of The Bats and the Popgun track which was on one of those Yellow Pills power pop samplers. Here's a vinyl rip that I found. I hope the link still works. (scroll down)

Hmmm...I might have that Popgun track then but not have realized it was Brion related. I have at least one of those Yellow Pills samplers but never spent much time with it. Thanks for the link. I'll check it out at some point this weekend.
