I'm going to pop into an Odell Deconstruction Golden Ale tapping party tomorrow night after work, but do most of my craft beer drinking while watching college football on Saturday. I will miss most of the Husker game while at work, so hopefully it doesn't end up like the last time Southern Miss played up here in Lincoln.
I'm still waiting for my Rye Ale to fully bottle condition. It is a bit too dark to enter as a light hybrid beer, but not quite a Roggenbier either, so I will just have to enjoy it myself.
I brewed an American Blonde Ale/Golden Ale yesterday with nine pounds of liquid malt extract (six Pilsner and three Gold), three types of hops (Sterling, Liberty and Citra) and used Thames Valley Yeast.
I also added an ounce of lemon zest late in the boil to accentuate the citrus quality of the hops.

I'd also like to mention that a friend of mine is relocating to Virginia to be brewmaster at this place. Those in the area should consider trying the beers and sharing their opinion of his products.

Good for him, sounds like a chance to do what he does.

I brewed another gluten free batch for the missus this week, and this time I'm goin' raspberry. Let a "normal" batch with zero early hops and just 2 ounces of low alpha acid Crystal hops @ 5 mins boil time ferment for a full day, then I dumped in 3 lb's of cooked down / cooled raspberries. Fucker's still bubbling 2 days later, so I guess the yeast liked that fructose a lot.

I somehow found a bottle of Russian River Salvation at a new local liquor store. Almost didn't buy it but I knew I'd never see it around here again.

Did any of you guys that picked up the SN/RR Brux collaboration ever try it? They've got several bottles hanging around at Total Wine.

I picked up Uinta's Pumpkin Beer...seems like it might be highly sessionable at 4%. Have you guys seen that Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin on shelves yet?

I've seen the Weyerbacher in stores here. Probably not gonna pick any up yet since it's still summer.

I have not yet. I did pick up two bottles though with the intention of aging one and drinking the other. I can try to be the guinea pig soon but it probably won't be the next couple of days.

The Brux was okay, but not really worth that much of an investment - just came off as a middling-good belgian. Then again, I'm the wrong person to ask about most belgians. Got me a Pliny in the fridge for tonight.

I don't think they're going to run out anytime soon...They've lowered the price to $13.59 and there are still a good 8-9 bottles.

I have not seen the Weyerbacher Pumpkin on tap or in stores yet, but I did enjoy the Wasatch Pumpkin Ale tonight.

The Uinta Pumpkin was a little disappointing. Kinda thin and not really what I've come to expect from them in terms of quality. *shrug* My only hope is that maybe it wasn't cold enough or maybe my wife will like them and drink the other 5 in one sitting as she is wont to do occasionally.

I picked up the Brux a few weeks ago and it's been sitting in my "cellar". Been waiting for Wedding Season to be over with to find a good time to drink it. Didn't see the Weyerbacher Pumpkin at Hop City yesterday but there were plenty of the Fall seasonals in.

Finally got around to using a $50 gift cert I got at the June engagement party at Hop City and went nuts.

Beers for today:

Anderson Valley Summer Solstice - sixes (I just like this beer for some reason)
Cisco Grey Lady Ale - sixes (first time seeing this but has been pimped by Cap and shiv)
21st Hell of High Watermelon - sixer (now a Femderris staple)
Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat - 64oz Growler

Others:

Shipyard Smashed Pumpkin - 750ml
St. Bernardus Tokyo - 750ml (new brew bottled in Feb for a new St. Bernardus bar in Japan. Some hybrid wit beer)
Boulevard Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale - 750ml
Harviestoun Ola Dubh - 330ml (Old Ale aged in barrels used to make Highland Park whisky 12 year)

Singles:

Left Hand Milk Stout Nitro
Boulevard Double Wide IPA
21st Amendment Hop Crisis
Terrapin LowRYEder IPA

Here we go Fall......

recommended pick up if this is available to y'all...really dug this one a LOT:

Image

it's the first Pretty Things product i've tasted, and based on this collab, i'm interested in hopefully one day checking out more (i'm looking at you, Total Wine in Norfolk, VA). i've not really had this style before, so i'm not sure if it's the norm, but this had a real nice combo of coffee/chocolate to go along with a slight hit of tart cherry finish. nice fall beer.

oh and bloor, you're not alone in your disappointment with the uinta pumpkin. i think i was the only one who liked it last fall, and others openly HATED it (shiv and cap'n i think).

in my defense, it's the only pumpkin beer i've had. is the consensus that the weyerbacher is the best?

despite the uinta being dogged by y'all, i'm still hoping to snag a bottle of this when it shows. missed out last year:

Yeah, I would buy that, too, estone--just on reputation alone and their regular pumpkin beer notwithstanding.

I'll be in the land of Founders and Bell's next week.

Grand Rapids, MI 9/12 - 9/14.

I'm definitely making a special trip to the Founder's taproom and I'll try to drink as much Bell's on draught as I can find in town. Apparently the Hop Cat is the 3rd best beer bar in the world. Let me know if you seen any beers on the list that I shouldn't leave without trying.

New Holland Brewing Co.
Dragons Milk (10.0%ABV)

Wish it was something I could find regularly. I'd definitely recommend it. Nothing else really caught my eye but we don't get much Founders or Bell's out here either.

I had that on tap in Russian River's pub when I was up there during the spring and wasn't all that impressed. I had it again recently in bottle though and liked it a lot more than I remembered. Maybe my palate was just off the first time as I'd been drinking wine all day.

Do any of you guys mail order beer? I was looking at that Rate Beer page for the Dragon Stout and noticed a "Find Beer" button which showed a couple of places that could ship to me, and one of the stores in SC that carried it also carried a couple of other things that I would like to try that I can't buy around here. Not sure I really want to get in the habit of paying for shipping though.

I'm going to a tapping party for the Alpine Beer Company/New Belgium collaboration Super IPA. It is a 9% ABV Imperial IPA that has been triple dry hopped and includes Columbus, Amarillo, Simcoe and Centennial Hops.

Drinking one now and you can tell Alpine shooed New Belgium away from the lab and took over this beer. It's awesome!

just grabbed 3 bottles of this @ $5/pop. this other dude there who is visiting from SF was clearing the rest out, telling me how he can't even get in NorCal.

seems to me that it's just going to be the regular brews, which are pretty uninspiring, which are going national.

Yeah, I saw that and clearly they are saying that there is a larger market for the regular brews at a lower price point thus the need to move their production to a larger facility. I don't know whether that means automatically though that they won't try to expand the distribution of the other beers too and perhaps moving the production of the regular brews increases capacity for brewing Matilda, BCS, Sofie and the other higher end beers at the chicago brewery.

the head "beer guy" at the liquor store was telling me he was pretty certain we would start seeing BCS this year out here, along with the Three Sisters. we already see the Matilda, Sofie, Pepe Nero and Pere Jacques pretty commonly though.

I have from THIS PLACE. Got some neat stuff, but as you say, the shipping was sort of a killer.

I honestly don't remember, but it seemed like a decent amount. It was quick and very well packed so there's that.

I went ahead and opened it tonight. I'm not really liking it that much. It's pretty bitter and a little tart and not in a particularly good way. It's not sour at all though and despite the Brett, there's not much funkiness or complex fruit flavor either. It will probably be better with more bottle age though. You may very well like it more than I do too. As much as I love Russian River, I'm not a fan of Sierra Nevada at all. So I'm not comfortable recommending it but I wouldn't necessarily discourage you from getting it either. If you do buy it though, give it some time before opening it and don't judge RR based on it. It's my least favorite thing I've had from RR to date. That probably doesn't help much.

Edit: It got a little better as it warmed up but not enough so to change anything I said above.
