San Marcos Misericordia sounds like a killer Western Swing/Tejano number, though.

I save my outright hate for offensive coordinator/world's oldest living waterhead Mike (3rd and) Bobo.

The question is, whom would Georgia target, were they to fire the coach? The AD would obviously want to make a splashy hire, but is UGA a big enough presence in its conference, let alone college football generally, to lure a mid-major success (Chris Petersen*) or a laterally-moving major candidate (as with Chizik moving from Iowa State to Auburn, or Mack Brown from UNC (granted, not a football school) to Texas; so, maybe, for the sake of this exercise, a Derek Dooley from UT to UGA, say**)? I just don't know. The only course might be to do a USC c. 2000 move & grab a failed/failing NFL coach who might the temperment to coach at the NCAA level. With no Pete Carroll around, though, who is there? Certainly not Mike Martz, but maybe a Mike Nolan or Jon Gruden.

Oh, that's it: Jon Gruden. Rah-rah guy, so a good campus presence, & (overly) enthusiastic, so a liably good recruiter. (Plus, that Super Bowl bling: Gruden could tempt kids coming out of high-school by telling them he knows how to get them prepared for the League.)

*If he hasn't taken any of the offers received so far, I don't see him taking one a continent away. Plus, he may just want to follow the Mark Few model & be the biggest fish in the smallest/smallish pond. (& to that end, just as Few saw what happened to Dan Monson at Minnesota), Petersen knows what happened to Dan Hawkins (I think that's the name) at Colorado.)

**Isn't old blood, reliance on what one knows, what's gotten Richt in trouble to start?

FireMarkRicht.com has already been snatched up and if you go to it I believe it says something about "supporting the Dawgs" or something. They bought it so no one could use it.

To answer your question though, they would target, and hire, Kirby Smart.

Not that it matters, the program would have to really go to hell for Richt to get pushed out. Even if he blows this "chance for greatness" year, the board couldn't justify firing a guy who had a couple back to back 10+ win years.

The Richt Way (which is also The Bowden Way) does best when it has a nasty D, and an offense that doesn't beat itself. Our problem is that we get the nasty D only 2-3 times a decade so far.

Always remember that Richt's Lurv of Jebus endears him to 80% of our fanbase and to everyone else in the SEC's fanbase.

Allbarn and Bammer fans agree on 1 thing, UGA is their second favorite SEC squad and they "hope he can get it right up there because he's such a good guy."

So, I agree with Derris. I also think the bloom on Kirbo's rose may have wilted a bit with Will The Thrill MusCHUMP's tenure in Flerda.

But I do think the "who you gonna get" factor is almost as high on the list for reasons we keep Richt. For some reason UGA does not seem to want to go The Sabanator route and bring in a tiny assassin that crushes everything in it's path. We want to win our way. A little more genteel, with a dash or 6 of Noble Failure thrown in for good measure.

Nebraska might need an interim coach for a few games. Bo Pelini left the stadium in an ambulance at halftime. He was suffering from flu like symptoms and they kept checking his pulse on the sideline.

From Bruce Feldman's game story:

Quote:
One young girl in a red Stanford sweatshirt — she couldn’t have been more than 18 — rushed up to Lane Kiffin and just started screaming, “[Bleep] you, Lane Kiffin! [Bleep] you, you [bleepin'] loser!”

I love it when a plan comes together.

Also, FYI, to my UGA peeps, UT @ UGA will get the coveted 3:30pm CBS slot.

Didn't you go to the emergency room once after too many Jaeger bombs the night before?

I know a couple of twins on that FireMarkRicht.com email chain that would absolutely explode in their drawers if Gruden was ever hired as UGA's coach.
I kind of agree about Kirby enthusiasm being tempered by Will FAILchamp.
I'm firmly in the camp of well never win the big one as long as Richt and Bobo are running the show.

Explode in their drawers, how? Meaning, hiring Gruden would be an erection lasting more than four hours, or drinking a litre of Tijuana water?

I wanted UCLA to go on an epic run and be the one bright spot on a weakass SOS for the Huskers despite it being a loss, but I am happy for the Beavs.
The Nebraska game today was too eerily reminiscent of the glory days when it wasn't whether or not they would win, but by how much and what time would we start seeing the backups. I only hope they don't shit the bed against Wiscy next week with the specialty uniforms, but I think they are destined for that sort of failure. It kind of reminds me of those Texas games during the last decade.

I know it is way too early to discuss bowl games, since half of the teams haven't even played a conference game, but I had to post it when I saw they projected Georgia vs Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl and LSU vs Nebraska in the Capital One Bowl.

EXACTLY what I've been thinking... I just think it's going to be just like the year Texas was horrible, but they still found a way to beat us. Wisconsin is NOT a very good team... we should beat them by 20. But I see us finding a way to lose... I sure hope I'm wrong.
