Chicago has completely ruined the craft beer scene. Too many unemployed drunks and delivery truck chasers.

Sooooo, you're saying you didn't get any.

Correct. Worst part, I wasn't even trying for myself since I don't care for the beer. It was going to be a thank you gift to one of my old trader buddies.

Beyond that though, if there's a beer release anywhere within driving distance of 312, people from here will go and ruin that event as well. We hoard, sell on eBay and ransom beer on the trading market. It's awful. I don't think any of you guys trade, but if you did, you would have a low opinion of folks from Chicago.

I had the same experience trying to buy this years Founder's KBS. I was following twitter for the announcement at my local shop (which is less than a mile from my office). I was in a meeting and when I got out I saw that they announcement has been made 45 minutes earlier. I ran over there and they had been out for a half an hour. About 20 or so cases in 15 minutes.

I don't think it's just Chicago man.

Not just Chicago by a long shot... but you'd be hard pressed to find it worse anywhere. This used to be a beer that would sit on shelves for years. Good thing I've almost 100% transitioned to meads. No problems finding those.

OK.

If you guys can find B. Nektar Zombie Killer (they ship almost anywhere) get on it. Cherry cobbler and terrific for hot weather.

I was told to expect mass quanities of Bourbon County Stout to hit the shelves here in a week or two, and that I can confirm it really sucks to buy the beer in Chicago. A friend of mine sold a bottle of Goose Island Bourbon County Stout Rare to a person who lived in Chicago, since they could not find the beer there.
The system seems to favor those who live further away from the market than those who live nearby.

There may just yet be a ton of BCS this time around after all. Found a bit at Whole Foods this morning.

As an aside, my friend Jason LOVED this. Like, "sent me a text the next day" loved it. He likes good beer, but doesn't wade too deep--he's still talking about the line up at our Stout Fest last year though.

Damn! Well, I know what to bring down with me next time we visit.

Two recents, from a few nights ago.

Mayflower - Hoppy Wheat

Locals still struggling to make a good impression on me. This was ok, nothing exciting or especially well executed. I wanted to make sure I've been right to ignore them all this time, and mission accomplished.

Carling - Black Label

I have this filed as "second worst beer ever, only one step above Iron City." But it's been over a decade, I feel like, since I actually had one. Maybe not - fuck there could be a pic of me having one somewhere in this thread but I don't remember it - so I waded back in. It's not as offensive as I remember, not as metallic and shitty as Iron City, but I also had stomach cramps when I went to bed. Coincidence?

The Meddler looked interesting too, i will crack that open this weekend hopefully.

Next week... I'll have to stake some place out. Or drive to the burbs or something, wherever I can get away from the ebay goons.

You can still find Pappy? I've just about given up on getting any.

Thanks for the headsup re: BCS. I'll stop looking for it now that I know it'll be a couple of months before it makes it's way out here.

I picked up a Dogfish Head Theobroma at Whole Foods last night but ended up drinking a pliny and a sunner kolsch instead.

It's LA Beer Week from Thursday through the end of the month with about 10-12 different beer related events per day:

http://www.estarla.com/2012/09/18/top-t ... 0-30-2012/

so hopefully I'll have a few more interesting things to contribute soon.

Turns out we aren't getting bottles of Goose Island products in Georgia for several weeks, or so I hear. Kegs are here.

Tried the Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin and it is indeed damn good...for a pumpkin beer. They must have made more or done a better job with distro this year because Ive seen it around at several places in quantity.

What's the board stance on Weyerbacher's other beers? I see them around but have never tried even one. I seem to remember you guys (maybe Capn and shiv) not liking them.

I'm just happy that we're starting to see Ocktoberfest selections turning up about now. Been knocking back some of the Schlafly version and they have a Porter coming for the cooling weather as well.

Weyerbacher has made a dew good "special" beers (like expensive 4-pack style), most notably the Pumpkin one and the Simcoe one they did last year. Those were pretty good, but not CRAZY good. But a lot of other stuff is just so so. I recall not digging Merry Monks too much or whatever that belgian they make is called.

My take on Weyerbacher:
I think their belgian and specialty beers that are available in .750 or bomber size bottles are worth trying and generally quite good. The stuff that is available in 12oz bottles is fairly mediocre for its price, but still worth a try if you are interested in that style.

I consumed my first Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale of the year, and it was delicious. It is amazing to see the faces of people who have never tried it immediately after they do so.It would have beenthe highlight of my night, but I also drank a fresh bottle of Surly Furious as well.

The Weyerbacher Merry Monks tastes like they tried to one up Victory Golden Monkey but failed miserably.

I spent my evening at one of the most authentic Oktoberfest celebrations in the Midwest, and managed to document my experience for once.

I can vouch for that Victory Festbier being qual. I'm going to have to keep an eye out for the Scythe & Sickle from Ommegang, as Nashville just started carrying their brew.

Others:
Sierra Tumbler - good fall session beer. Doesn't way me down too much
Shiner Oktoberfest - it's fine. Nothing amazing
Brooklyn Oktoberfest - had a couple of these during the UGA/Buffalo game. Tasty, but nothing I fell in love with

I had a few of the Terrapin Pumpkinfest over the weekend. Again, tasty for a pumpkin Oktoberfest, but nothing so amazing I'm going to recommend to all of my friends.
