In other news, Canton just released this year's Hall of Fame nominations: Strahan, Sapp, Ogden, Lynch, et al.

Just read that myself. Definitely some great names. That said, I'm not as well versed with Canton as I am with Cooperstown. That said, Ogden should be a lock. The guy was dominant.

Jerome Bettis, Andre Reed, Tim Brown, Cris Carter, Charles Haley, Aeneas Williams, Bill Parcells were all on the previous year's shortlist, so they probably will be at least on this year's.

Steve Sabol's death probably places him much higher now for consideration.

I'd say yes to Ogden, Sapp, and Larry Allen. Strahan is borderline. Morten Anderson should make it.

God I hate Warren Sapp.

Also, someday somone needs to explain to me the appeal of Michael Strahan.

Only four more sacks than Dent, and it took him F'N forever to get in.

Edit: AND Dent had a Super Bowl MVP to his credit.

I know Bettis is like 6th all time in Rushing Yards but I think he is a very borderline HOF'er...He never dominated or led the league in anything in a given year. And look, I know he's got the "good guy" thing going but come on: If Cris Carter is not in, Jerome Bettis should not be just because he was a better guy to the media. I gotta put Tim Brown in the same category as Bettis: Merely very good.

I'll give you Reed and Haley although I think the window may be closing on Reed.

To me Brown is the most borderline. Haley has 5 rings and 100 sacks. And dude was a BEAST on them Cowboys championship teams. Bettis was OF Rookie of the Year for the Rams, is 6th all time and the Steelers finally won a championship with him. 6 Pro Bowls, and I think you're wrong about his dominance - he may have never been the best in a given year, but he was in the conversation for his first 7-8 years. in an NFL dominated by 2-3 year flashes like Chris Johnson, he had 8 seasons over 1000 yards.

Let's face it - Reed and Carter are held back by their respective teams' post-season sorriness.

Reed is in a weird place where his numbers are awesome for a WR in his era but not comparable to the next generation. The thing that jumps out to me with Tim Brown is that he has basically the same amount of catches as TO but 50 less touchdowns. Like, holy fuck. (But I'll make the argument that TO is absolutely a Hall of Famer even though we both know he's gonna have the same trouble that Carter is having despite his numbers)

Bettis: Just went through every year from '93-'01. The main argument for Bettis is that he was like you say consistent at a position where careers are short lived. But didn't the Hall just reward that last year with Curtis Martin? My main argument against would be that nothing he did in any single season jumps off the page. And there's nothing wrong with that: You can win a lot of damn games with a guy like Bettis as your anchor but I'm not sure it makes you a Hall of Famer. It's probably moot though since he'll get the "good guy bonus points" to push him over the top.

Definitely on Reed - but I think you can make an objective case that everyone of the guys you bring up is better than Art Monk and/or Curtis Martin.

Brown was dominant, but a career as a Raider during The Sorry Years probably hurts his cause. I think The Bus gets in because he was a bright spot, great (if not spectacular) player, and Pittsburgh was always in the mix while they had him.

Yeah. It's time for you whiny Packer's fans to get the fuck over it. The replacement referees blew that last call, just as badly as they blew 2 calls against Seattle earlier in the 4th quarter Packer touchdown drive that allowed Green Bay to be in the position to win the game in the first place. Why the fuck are you rooting against Seattle anyway? They didn't botch the call. Were they supposed to forfeit to Green Bay?

Hell, as a Seahawk fan I've been told to quit whining about the screwjob we got in Superbowl 40. At least that was for a world championship, not week 3.

You were fortunate to beat the hapless Saints at home today. Quit your bitching, play better and it won't matter.

Totally disagree on the 2 calls Seattle fans keep referring to (I'm really only aware of the one interference call that i giffed earlier in the thread which makes it look a little closer than Hawks fan care to admit). That and the obnoxiousness of Seahawk fans on facebook being total D-Bags is mainly why i'm rooting against the Seahawks now....plus if they're both in playoff contention Seattle has owns the head to head win and could eliminate the Packers from the playoffs.

Nothing really against the Hawks but against their fans (not all of their fans but a vocal majority).

I agree that i need to get over it.

By the way...great win against Stanford.

That reverse angle gif you posted did nothing to change my mind---that does not get called as PI 95% of the time by real officials. The other call I'm referring to was the reversal on the goal line on Rodger's scramble. It wasn't as blatant an error but it was not an obvious first down and should've been upheld as the call on the field---4th and goal. They would've kicked the FG.

And I can easily match your d-bag Seattle fan with a d-bag Packer fan. That's a wash.

And yes, get over it. It's not worth the increase in blood pressure--trust me. I know it's tough, but I finally did too.

And Washington's victory was quite unexpected against a top 10 team. Amazing what an actual defensive coordinator can do for a team. Sadly, they're headed to Autzen on Saturday. It will likely be ugly again. I hope they can keep it under 20.
