Unfortunately, the World Series will be over before my half-birthday. But maybe a 5/12th birthday!

I am genuinely disappointed for the White Sox. I do root for them.
But I'm glad that I won't have to hear obnoxious South Siders boasting about how they are in the post season the the Cubs failed to even get there (yet again).

Thus far, the greatest run I've seen in 44 years of Oakland A's fandom.

Congrats, man. The A's went out and grabbed it. Outstanding season for your boys. I don't expect them to be finished playing any time soon. As opposed to the Rangers, who I seriously doubt will be playing after Friday.

Thanks Bob.

Dunno, it's a funny game. The opposite of everything you stated may ring true as well.

i haven't seen a second of an A's game this year...not sure I can name a single player on the roster other than Cespedes.

Braves have epic collapse in 2011.

Chipper announces he will retire at end of 2012 season.

Braves win a spot in wild card play in his last year.

They have a scrappy team that can make a deep run.

It's all setting up for a soul crushing defeat with Chipper striking out in the 11th with bases loaded. 5-4 loss.

i think the Giants will have a tough time with the Reds, unfortunately. lincecum is way off this year and our bullpen is a major weakness w/o brian wilson at the back end.

Didn't take long for the Sawx to get rid of Bobby V. What a surprise.

Not a Braves fan. Detest the Cardinals. That call was detestable and they could have gotten together and made it right, but chose not to do so. Chipper.....

I can relate as a Packers fan.

If the call goes the other way for the Braves, that inning could have been much different. They were in a hole due to a few pretty ugly errors, so it doesn't feel as bad as it could have I guess.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Freaking out. So good to watch this game with other fans, albeit probably new fans, but still great to go some place and watch it with people who are cheering for the same team. Bring on the Yanks.

So much for Atlanta being a soft sports town, amirite?

It was a terrible call, but the Braves had a million opportunities to win that game and booted them all...as only the Braves can do.

I can't help but think Chipper might pull a (less tearful and douchey) Favre and comeback next year under the auspices of "unfinished business. If not, thanks for the memories, see you in Cooperstown.

Yeah, Darvish was throwing good, but man what about Saunders? Holy cow. Game of a lifetime. He kept us in it.

What are yr thoughts on Hamilton? Gone or staying. What are TX papers/writers saying?

From what I've read, it sounds like the Rangers intend to take the same approach with him that they did with CJ Wilson. They'll let the market develop and then see whether they want to participate at those prices. He's an interesting case. He's obviously a major talent capable of throwing his team on his back for weeks on end, but he is also prone to prolonged slumps, has been injury-prone, has terrible plate discipline, and comes with substance abuse baggage and general concerns about how he'll age and the wisdom of signing him to a big long term deal. I think the Rangers are interested in bringing him back but expect that they won't be willing to if a big market develops for him. Based on his performance you'd expect a big contract but it's hard to predict who would throw a lot of money at him. A lot of the big market teams probably don't have room for him or have little interest. Yankees are trying to lower payroll. Dodgers have 3 OFers signed to long term deals. It would be hard to picture the Red Sox shedding all that payroll and then throwing a big contract at him. I would have to think someone is going to give him 5+ years at $100+ million but who? I guess that there is a lot of TV money floating around so it wouldn't have to be one of the usual suspects.

Maybe their interest is even less than I thought:

Asked this week if there was any chance of re-signing Hamilton, one club official said, "not even if he wants to play here for free next season."

Well, that's just stupid. I dunno if I agree with the whole addition by subtraction concept--in this case.

There's a part of me that wants the O's to take a run at him. An OF of Hamilton, Jones and a healthy Markakis is awe-inspiring. Add in that your DH would be Chris Davis and you've got the potential for massive firepower.

But then there's the part of me that remembers the slew of big-time free agents that the O's went after on their declines that didn't work out. I mean, if Hamilton could hit 43 HRs for the next 5 years, play 143 games (like this year) then I'd be happy. But he is 31.

Or do the O's take a chance on Melky--which is probably the loudest rumors in the Baltimore rags.
