I mean the guy's assertion that "climate change caused the storm" is not exactly scientific fact, but yeah.

It's kinda sad for everyone involved.

Things are worse... Andrew Sullivan calls it a "cold Civil War" in the United States. I think most objective analysis would say the Repubs are "worse", although the tacit understanding that "both sides are at fault" obfuscates said analysis.

and the media perpetuate the divide for ratings. It's disgusting.

I'm afraid that it could be more real than we know. I have a good friend with military brothers and he's mentioned post-election martial law a few times.

It's the silence that's killing me, and the response to a guy who points it out is jingoism.

I love that the two extreme responses to the other side winning are either:

I'm disgusted with this country and am moving to another one (Liberals)

We've got to form the militia to take back the country (conservatives)

Yeah, I kinda chuckle at the notion, but it's in a "this is ridiculous but it still makes me nervous" way.

You know, when you get to vote and you lose that election, then you're done. You don't get to pull out guns and get your way.

Yeah I got email from a group of my Mom-in-law whackoes about some outrageous Obama thing. It starts off pretty assertive, "Read This. This make me want to Puke!" Yep, a bunch of 60 something blue hairs. I snoped it sent it back and said if they want to continue spreading lies, I don't want to know you.

not these "well off" ones, not one %ers mind you

edit: I did mischaracterize the mom, surely a fiery fake red head former southern dem. Her best friend a feminist/naturalist former staff member to Pataki staunch conservative. Well she is in a pickle. I think she is more fem than conservative in the end.

Actually, a civil war isn't a bad idea. The US has got to kill off the christian conservatives anyway, and if those fearful crackers take up arms for some "2nd Amendment remedies" it's a good excuse to just mow down the fuckers. Hell, I'd sneak across the border and enlist if it meant I could shoot a few of them in the face.

For something a bit more subtle:

My dad and I were in different parts of Florida for vacation last week, and we met up as "his place" in Indian Rocks Beach (Tampa Bay: on the Gluf coast south of Clearwater), and we come across a guy with a Faith and Freedom Coalition shirt encouraging everyone to "just vote. It doesn't matter who you're voting for." Well, sir, given your organization title and the stereotypical demographics of the area, you clearly have a stake and are being sneaky about it. The "we'll win if enough people vote" mindset is a bit too Kerry 2004.
