I'm glad Straight to Ale is distributing to Nashville. They put out consistently good brew. I'm not an IPA guy, but enjoyed their Saison and Stouts I had back in Spring at East Nashville Beer Fest.

I've got the 12 South Winter Warmer beer fest next weekend to get me warmed up for the SEC Championship game. Already at half chub and it's over a week away

ugggh...LiquorMart just tweeted that they got The Abyss in...and i can't get there for at least an hour or two. God i hate Twitter and the mad rush to grab a limited release beer these days.

two years ago i could buy The Abyss weeks, if not months, after it's release.

Insert "Kentucky Breakfast Stout" for "The Abyss" and I experienced the same deal earlier this year.

Except I was in a meeting and their supply ran out in less than 30 minutes.

I remember buying KBS and Goose Bourbon from the grocery store, casually. Like, on a whim, because I was already there buying butter.

I drank great beers over thanksgiving and I can't seem to get bandwidth to post pics.

I popped that Uinta Oak Jacked Imperial Pumpkin Ale on Thanksgiving. It was DAMN good, just enough of everything. For the money though, I'm not sure I'd get it again; it wasn't that much better than say, Weyerbacher.

Also, finally got around to drinking the Dragon's Milk and really enjoyed it as well. A nice kind of oatmeal cookie or something going on with the flavor. Maybe not in my top tier of boozy stouts but right there at the top of the second.

From the Boulevard mixed 4, I can report that Long Strange Tripel is good/great, i still dont like their quad and Tank 7 & and Doublewide still kick all kinds of ass.

Of my four up there, the Orval wins for best all-rounder (ignoring price of course) and the Goose still destroys all comers in the Wide Open category. Fuck me, that was 12 great ounces. Took me 2 hours to finish it, just sipping the vanilla/oak/caramel aroma in and finding myself pleasantly overwhelmed by it. Nobody else there was a beer guy, though two of them did take miniscule sips of the Goose. and "whoa" was all that followed.

My brother in law split the Uinta with me. He's a good egg.

Jealous of the Bourbon County Stout. I check my store's inventory online daily and have yet to see it come in stock so I'm guessing its distribution still does not include CA. Oh well. I was within about a 45 minute drive of Russian River and a 30 or so minute drive of Lagunitas this weekend but couldn't really justify making fem g deal with the detour when I have a fairly full fridge of beer at home. I probably should have at least made a few purchases at a bay area Whole Foods or liquor store. I did see Lagunitas Brown Shugga up there but haven't noticed it down here yet for example.

I had a 12 and a 22 of the Burb Co left. Figured this was a suitable event to sink the 12.

success! i guess it's not mayhem here...yet. they are still sticking to the "one bottle per" that started last year, which is cool i guess. i swung by Hazel's after Liquor Mart and grabbed another ($10.99 vs. $14.99 -- wtf LM???). i'll have to check out the shops out here in the burbs too as i get the chance.

oh, also that bottle of Big Bad Baptist - i grabbed one of those the other week on the rec of the beer guy, and damn it is worthy. saw this last bottle and snagged it to see what might happen after a year or so in the cellar. first thing i've had from Epic, but won't be the last.

i know we were on the same disty schedule ("late November") according to that article i posted here a while ago. i've been checking in a bunch too and the guys around here are starting to think CO will not be getting any either.

check out The Abyss if you see it billy. i'd be shocked if you didn't dig it.

It's getting to where I just wanna start making my own Burb County, not because I think it's easy (or even terribly possible) but because dispite all that, it would be easier than fucking finding any of the real stuff.

Only thing I've had from them is the Fermentation Without Representation Pumpkin Porter. It's the best Pumpkin beer I've had. I just picked up another bottle of it last night. I assume you recommend the stout?

i thought they were producing a shit load more this year too?

then i read about the damn Cherry Rye and Coffee variations...talk about drool!

edit: billy, yes, i'd recommend. maybe a notch below the heavy hitters in my opinion (Yeti, etc), but damn tasty. it's heavy on the coffee, which may be a turn off to some, but i dig that.

and i just realized this bottle is batch #5, and batch #9 is what i had last time. it was strange that it was sitting all alone on the shelf in an odd area...hope i didn't snag someone's secret stash....

i don't expect it will make a huge difference in taste, but it could? i guess i just hope the bottle had been stored properly over the past 9 months.

Big Bad Baptist Imperial Stout #5
Brewed on January 20, 2012. Packaged February 25, 2012.
This delicious coffee/chocolate nib laced beer shows slight hints of whiskey from the barrel aging. Pours an almost pitch black with auburn highlights. It has hints of dark chocolate, bourbon, dark fruits and vanilla oak. This beer is certainly going to keep you warm on a cold winter night.

The Grains/Malts
Muntons Maris Otter Malt, Briess 2-Row Brewer Malt, Crystal Muntons, Weyerman Light Munich Malt T1, 2-Row chocolate malt, 2-row black malt, roasted barley

Rimini Coffee (Tanzanian) and Cocoa Nibs.

The Hops
Nugget, Chinook, Cascade

ABV 11.2%

This release was aged in both whiskey and bourbon barrels, primarily first-use whiskey casks, and second-use bourbon casks. Addtional dark chocolate and fruit flavors mingle with the whiskey and bourbon notes.

Don't get your hopes up for that BA Yeti and Hibernation... lots of infections have been reported over the year. I opened my BA Yeti in September and it was a sour mess. Waste of $30.

Good, not great. Not anything in the top tier. But a nice thick stout. Borderline "sixpack" strength flavor.

Bought a couple of Eagle Rock Jubilee Ales last night.

Was digging through the refrig for something to drink and found another Epic that I'd bought during the summer and forgot about - Epic's Barrel Aged Brainless On Cherries. Really disappointing. Not much sour funk at all, the cherries and beer didn't really complement each other at all, and it had a bit of a medicinal flavor to it. Maybe I got a bad bottle but I won't be buying it again.

Potent (8%) amber ale with just enough caramel malt and spice to add something different without tasting like a gimmick. WAs gonna have one before going out, but it was good enough I had to drink two.
