that sounds like a fun time, toots. i once got into an argument with some in laws when they started defending the KKK for all the good things they used to do in the community. sort of a terror-based neighborhood watch.

You know, the one thing I can say about living in Belfast in the 90s is that there was no petty crime. Terror groups kind of soak that activity right up!

Thanksgiving for me the last few years has been like going into blissful hiding. We've just been hanging out with friends. No Uncle Teabags, just people our age. But some chestnuts from years past:

- Wife's uncle Dave in Denver is an insurance salesman and spectacular alcoholic, and I mean a guy who can put away 2 handles of vodka on a weekday while on the clock (because he owns the company) and still drive himself to and from work much less stay awake. He's been at several Thanksgivings in years past, going back to when we were just dating, and early on he picked me out as a guy he needed to spar with. 5:00PM he's fine, just a light buzz, and the guy is charming as hell, funny and witty and kind. At 5 you can see why he was so successful as a salesman and a husband, once. By 7 we've eaten and he's in the bag, and wants to talk "politics," which is really him picking out a point to argue, losing the argument, then quickly pivoting. All you have to do is show him to be intellectually inconsistent (which he cannot stand, being a guy who prides himself on having carefully thought out his hatred) or to be cruel, which some part of him also cannot stand. Then he pivots. One year when he was having no luck with me, he literally began to wrestle with his son on the kitchen floor, eventually breaking a cabinet door. All in good fun.
- Unlce Dave's Mom... She was a piece of work who didn't even bother to hide the racism. She had BALLS. Grouchy old fart, too. Once put a series of coins on the table in front of me, a penny first, then a nickle, dime, and quarter. Lincoln's head faces left, all the others face right. "You know why they're all facing away from him? Cuz he freed the slaves! HAAA ha ha ha ha!" ...I just stared at her for a second, moved the penny to the far right and said "look now they're all friends. So hey everyone, I'm not ok with this lady. I'll be outside." Unpleasntness ensued. And hell, i think that time Dave broke something at the hotel this all happened at, late at night.

Uncle Dave's son... for high school graduation he got one of those new body style 360Z's, right when those got revamped 6 or 7 years ago. Metallic blue. Happy graduation, 18 year old. I know I'm probably a lousy dad but look how much I love you. We good now? That son now runs a legal medical mary jane store, much to Dad's dismay I must assume. Also I believe Uncle Dave lost his business due to booze, but I'm not positive. Think I heard they went bankrupt.

The election results have apparently driven my Ungle Teabag to a new fervor on facebook. It's like an endless stream of links to Michelle Malkin's website. He always adds a delightful short summary of his opinion (which, based on the few articles I made the mistake of clicking through to read completely matches Malkin's):

"Union workers are LIFERS (Lazy Inefficient F)&(&s Expecting Retirement, or a free ride for the rest of their lives)!"
--Extra points for being ballsy enough to think the FUCK word, and yet censoring it in the most absurd, confusing way possible.

"If saving the spotted owl if saving it means 10s of thousands of human beings will lose their jobs I say exterminate that spotted owl!"
--The pipedream of America--killing owls (and other wildlife) for jobs.

"I support fracking 10000%!"

I actually give Beck a little credit for that, what with it being based on Mapplethorpe and all.

I have an uncle Dave as well. One time I brought my friend to uncle Dave's for Thanksgiving. My friend didn't have much of a family, and no one locally, so we hung out for the day.

The highlight of the day, which we will most likely remember forever, is sitting in my uncle's living room, watching footage of Dave's time spent at the palette factory. Very Kirk Van Houten-ish.

please comment on this thread and tell Tracy Frank that chiropractors are modern day elixir salesman and she should just set fire to 108 bucks a month instead.

Apparently it's $108 a week, not a month. I have yet to comment on most of the CHH threads from my parents cousins.
