will probably have a fair amount of overlap with that list. weird i haven't heard psychedelic pill or the tempest yet tho and don't really desire too.

eventually.

one thing, i feel like the old crow album is really overlooked this year and is easily their best record. can see now that the string band thing is everywhere that it's not a big deal, but i feel like most of the album is their loosest, most raucous material, really plays like a like ocms show - anyway, probably the list i've liked the most but lots of albums i'm not even going to get near

A lot of this is way outside of what I listen to, but there are a few here that my brother has recommended also so gave them a listen and it's some nice stuff. Really liking that Lumineers record a lot and damn, that Andrew Combs guy can flat-out sing.

Is this worth tracking down?

3. Shovels and Rope: O’ Be Joyful

A number of coed duos of recent vintage—from She & Him to the Civil Wars—have drawn at least part of their appeal from their coy dynamics and combined attractiveness. But this year, the husband-and-wife duo Shovels & Rope came out of left field with an entirely different breed of male-female interaction. Instead of the graceful choreography of trading off between lead and supporting vocal roles, on O’ Be Joyful Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent tend to attack their robustly tuneful melodies and harmonies with equal and simultaneous force, coming off more as comrades than typical paramours. They’re no courtly couple—they’re visceral garage rockers who genuinely work up a sweat, and who didn’t feel it necessary to dress up their stomping, primitive grooves or no-frills production. Besides being a fresh approach, theirs also happens to be a phenomenally accessible one.

I like it quite a lot, and know that they'll be making waves over the next couple of years. Great live show

I gave it a listen either yesterday or the day before but didn't find it anything special.

I'm not a fan of his so I didn't bother with it but I was surprised to see it on so many lists because I can't remember anyone talking about it.

So glad someone else is digging on it. Heard a few tracks from Down In The Barnyard back when it was released and took a chance and ordered it. Love/d it. Looking forward to the new one. Didn't know it was on spotify--thanks for the heads up.

And, another list:

Patterson Hood Best of 2012 list

There isn't a whole lot of consensus or even as much overlap as there usually in on lists like these. Depending upon who you are, it showcases either a very deep year or a very weak one.
I go for the former.

Dylan and Springsteen have shown up on a lot of lists. I havent heard either. Should I?

Thanks for the suggestions on a few of these above, though.

The Bruce album will be my #1

Now, that's just ridiculous.

That being said, the best thing on that Jack White album is probably the Blasters cover.
