I have lost the desire to log every single release I listen to in a particular year. With the advent of streaming, I simply can too easily listen to several releases a day and to try and log each and everyone is a chore in itself. Instead, I am only logging records that I enjoyed enough to consider for end of the year lists, and such.....Others may log as they wish!

I got embarrassed I was buying so much shit I stopped posting. 2012 was a music buying frenzy for me.

2013 I will be instituting austerity measures.

Hmm, guess I need to listen to that Yo la Tengo. And Low, still!

Here's my top 5 so far:

Lord Huron - Lonesome Dreams
Rose Melberg - September
Kingbury Manx - Bronze Age
AV Club - Believe
Lovely Bad Things - The Late Great Whatever

Also kinda like Bad Religion, Two Hours Traffic.

Kate Nash isn't as good as her previous one. David Bowie's album is ok.

Nabbed the Mergers and liked it enough to keep, but other than the initial listen I've given it zero attention at this point.

I'm trying hard with the ACBs, but pretty sure it'll fall off the top 20 as the year goes on. It feels something like Spoon's Kill The Moonlight, in that they've stripped everything down to the foundations. The difference might be that Spoon found a solid base, and the ACBs found sand. Or maybe it's a step towards something else.

Deadstring Bros likewise might not stick around. It's a bit of comfort food. And this time out at least there's no screeching bar squaw doing Joplin in a lumbering Bob Seger cover band (aka Silver Mountain), although there's also no standout track that I want to put on a mix (so far).

Looking at my Top 20, it's pretty clear to me that #s 13-20 are all fairly tenuous. If the last half of the year doesn't bring along a stack of albums to knock them out of position then it'll have been a thin year.

I think I like it because, hey, it's Free Energy, although I've already deleted some of the songs and burned the remainder to CDR as bonus tracks to the debut.
