I've been enjoying this one a lot lately. Former members of The Measure, Off With Their Heads (on this recording), Sexy Crimes, The Ergs! RIYL like those bands, maybe 90s stuff like the Beautys or Bratmobile

I liked their split with Vacation Bible School. Very Measure-y.

Been kind of digging this album by the Exquisites:

Image

You can stream the whole album at punknews.org

http://www.punknews.org/bands/theexquisites

Noise-y singer/songwriter style punk, maybe in the vein of Leatherface, but not as gravelly

Yeah I have only heard the Measure in compilation or mixtape form, but I always like what I hear.

Listening to the Exquisites now. Yep, noisy punk stuff. Although there's a little Dino Jr. in there as well. Not too shabby.

On punknews there was an ad for RVIVR, which reminded me about this video. I don't care for the band that much, but I like that they parodied an old Rancid video.

A couple from Cold Warps. Another one of those purposely junked production punk bands, but i like the semi-subtle poppiness of these songs.

Now THIS band is one of the few gruffy beardo ponx bands that I do like. I hope this album is good. Comes out next week.

All are welcome.

This is what the Leftovers are doing since Kurt Baker went solo. I really LOVED the Leftovers so any time I hear Borderlines (or Baker's solo stuff) I'm always like "Yeah this is pretty good, but it's not the Leftovers!"

I like this video though because it reminds me how I spent the summers of 2004-2008, watching bands like the Leftovers, the Jetty Boys, and Be My Doppelganger in basements.

I'd definitely recommend them, but it took me a lot of listens (to a full-length) before it really clicked. Their melodies are pretty different and it takes a while to click. Usually 2-3 killers songs per record, though.

Although "Die Today" from Hospitals did have me flipping out, I gotta say I'm in the camp of fans that like them more with each new release.

Re: Cold Warps
First off it's 5 years too late in its dirty attempt at a Marked Men rip-a-dip. Secondly, it's interesting, but not surprising, that the shit that would get you laughed off a stage 20 years ago is now hot shit.
Kids are naive.
And most adults have poor memories and arrested taste buds so eventually everyone wins in the world of "new music"

Re: OWTH
That band is 1998 punk rock eternalz.
Outside of this board and magazine articles written by 19 year olds, I've never heard or read anything positive thing about that band.
Their promotional team keeps them in business.

But since I'm here, anyone listen to the new NoFX? Wasn't aware they released anything recently, until....last week.
They keep surprising me with every new album over the past 10 years in my thinking that every new release is their worst
But despite their overall terribleness, every album has a handful of decent songs
Enough to make one wonder why they just didn't wait.

Finally, if you're over the age of 18 and listen to anything resembling the Borderlines, it's time for some internal reflection that happens every Tuesday at my church's Warped Tour Anonymous group.

Just testing this bandcamp tags thing. Tight Bros (not to be confused with the other band with a similar name) put this out digitally a while ago, but the LP just came out this month.

http://tightbros.bandcamp.com/album/tight-bros-lp

unsuccessfully using the bandcamp tags... lil help?

New album out now-ish! The tags for this on bandcamp are: indie pop pop punk punk punk rock rock Minneapolis. I really like this but can't say it much better than that.

And speaking of Kurt Baker, if you've neglected his solo stuff now's the time to catch up. Like, right now, since this sale is only for a few more days and supplies are running low.

All the stuff for 15 bucks ppd.

another MPLS band that no one cares about
just a mashup of long-gone bands that sell records to fanboys

this is what they actually sound like:

and look how much everyone is into them!

i listened to the entire "album" because living in MPLS I've never heard of/acknowledged this band although i'm familiar with their ilk.
initially i wrote a couple paragraphs of criticism about this record,
but i got rid of it i when i realized my effort was more than they put into this album.

after all his financially-connected band recommendations,
bort is either a "street teamer" and/or a sucker with perpetual bad taste in 90's-era pop punk rock that buys into label hype.

P.S. I finally got around to listening to the new self-titled NoFX record. Starting at the opening track, it was great. Right back to the shit that got me hooked, Punk in Drublic, Thanks for the Shoes, etc. Then it was the opening song over and over and over. And then it wasn't great, and I was disappointed. It made me question whether or not I actually ever liked those aforementioned records. And that maybe they should have left well enough alone. There are 2 or 3 keepers on this new record, but a compilation of the best tracks off the last 4 albums is in order to prove to myself that I should keep paying attention to this band.

Around 2003, it was quite the dichotomy of work-week, all-ages band line-ups. If you weren't a group of high school kids trying to rip off the Dillinger Escape Plan, you were part of this 15-piece band laying down some deep ass jams that no girls ever cared about.

This is forgettable, but better than the last Leatherface record. I couldn't unload that fucking turd for $3.

This is a straight-up Marked Men rip-off.
Great record for those who find comfort in standard power chord progressions at 120 bpm.
