All tickets $20 for his summer tour.
Still not a fan of his music, though.

Just wish that more bigger acts would follow suit.

Is it a class move or is it a move that will ensure he actually sells out these outdoor amphitheaters?

Seems like he's moved so far away from his hip hop roots into this jingoistic nationalism that his fanbase is now A) not as young and B) rural (ie- country) who aren't as likely to drive to the nearest big city to plop down $65 to see him.

He's going to lose his shirt on this tour. He's either a brilliant marketer or a fool who is desperate to remain relevant by having a "SOLD OUT" tour.

How will he lose his shirt? 15,000 people paying 20 bucks is more money than 5000 people paying 50 bucks even before you add in the multiplying factors of merch and beer. Seems like a business man making the kind of business decision business people have to make if they want to remain...you guessed it, in business.

Also, ZZ Top is playing with him? Shit, I would almost pay 20 bucks to see ZZ Top if they could tell me exactly what time they go on and come off so I wouldnt have to see Uncle Cracker or Kid Rock. It's The Top, maaaaan.

$20 would definitely be worthwhile for zz top. i saw them in october and they sounded really good, even if they didn't play very long for a headlining gig.

Meh. I don't know the ins and outs of putting together a huge summer tour but the bands still have to be paid each show, full crew, hotels, transportation, etc. The real thing that stood out was them trying to keep the beer prices at $4. I know beers at Lakewood (24oz BL's) run around $8. I'd be curious to know if they are responsible for subsidizing that. I promise 15,000 Kid Rock fans aren't just having 1 beer.

I'm just questioning his motives. He's not "doing it for the everyman" as the press would have us believe.

Just realized this is a tax break for the 15%

the poor folks were already paying $20 a ticket.

This is why I'm wondering if its sponsored by Budweiser or some other beer company.

It's fine to question his motives, but you might want to buy a calculator if you are questioning the economics: 15,000 people @ $20 will always be more than 5000 people @ $50; that extra money is what you use to pay the crew, put fuel in the buses etc.

And you are absolutely correct: Kid Rock fans aren't buying one beer and if the beers are $4 they'll probably buy six (which means more than buying two $8 beers in disgust because you already paid $50 for a ticket, etc.)

And it's not like you're going to Wal Mart and getting a cheap Chinese knockoff "Rid Kock" for your $20--no, it's the genuine article! I mean, Kid Rock, he's the guy who did the thing!

It's probably sponsored, which accounts for the ability to be able to charge cheap tickets. The sponsorship money can then be used to pay expenses.

THIS article sheds a little more light on the subject. I gotta say, other than Kid Rock's actual music, I've got no issue with any of this whatsoever.
