Anyone ever read his writing? Really creative with words too, that guy.

Drinky-- I'm pretty sure a few tracks are from the Fonotone since the boxset focuses on that era and the recordings issued from Joe Bussard.

Jsh-- I've read "How Bluegrass Music Destroyed My Life". It was OOP for awhile, but looks like its readily available. Want to read "Vampire Vultures".

Yeah, I don't think I've read any of his writing. Would be interested in checking some of it out.

Definitely recommend "How Bluegrass Destroyed My Life", particularly the short story "Honey" from what I remember, but haven't read "Vampire Vultures.

This looks fantastic. Nothing really more to be said about it.

As for the writings, like most of y'all said, all I have read is "How Bluegrass Music Destroyed My Life," and I remember liking it a good bit.

Reviews have been incredible (naturally). Was hoping it would be on spotify. No dice.

OK, so here's my new prize possession. Glimpsed it while perusing Sonic Boom in Toronto and listening to William Tyler – whose record is also good, and fits in this thread – on Record Store Day. As if I hadn't already dropped enough coin that day, I had to have it. And will probably be replacing my janky turntable, lest a wonky needle touch this perfection. Several of my favourite records that I never expected to find in one package. Nicely done 4 Men With Beards.

pretty funny you should bump this particular thread seafoam, as i was just looking at this yesterday. i fell pretty hard down the rabbit hole the last couple days. started off with Hiss Golden Messenger, which led me to William Tyler and then the Golden Gunn (Hiss Golden Messenger + Steve Gunn) album that came out for RSD. from there Steve Gunn's solo ablums (he has a new one coming out this spring) + Gunn-Truscinski Duo and then i landed on the Tompkins Square Label website....whoo boy.

needless to say i am up to my ears in stuff to check out, and i have yet to even hear a note of fahey, basho, jack rose, et al.

i'm currently listening to Daniel Bachman's Seven Pines album. pretty killer stuff.

so anyways, i'm just getting familiar with Steve Gunn and have amassed some of his works and would be happy to share. i have yet to listen to any of it as i'm trying to go slow on this stuff as it seems like it could reach it's saturation point with me rather quickly. but i also tend to binge. i also feel like i'm starting this ass-backwards with these younger kids paying tribute to the masters of the genre...but i'll get there one way or the other.

yeah, please share. hadn't really even heard of gunn. that is back-asswards, but there are troves of amazing music you've yet to discover. fahey kind of changed my ear before i'd even heard him. seems like you're in a similar position.
