this shit. is super dumb.
may be passable if you're 15.
and you're not familiar with any music prior to 1995
and you don't know any better.
otherwise
don't propagate this horseshit.

sorry to be a downer, but bort's idea of punk rock is just not very good and a possible shilling.

the new night marcher's record is on its way, but i have a feeling that might be comforting in its familiarity as well.
we shall see....

can we get recommendations in this thread that aren't rooted in 1998 or from websites directed at naive teenagers?

I liked their last Night Birds single I heard, no time to listen to this now, but looks like they're coming to town next week. Might have to check that out.

I suggest that you do. The band really rips live. I was worried their new guitarist wouldn't fill the shoes of the departed Mike Hunchback, but thankfully he's great. They seem to bring out the hardcore dudes, so if you're old and frail like me, watch out.

Good call Todd, as they sound right up my alley. I wish the songs were slightly better/catchier though.

Sorry to interrupt the Warped Tour Life of aBortion..but I like these 2013 records.

Night Marchers: Allez Allez; It's the next Hot Snakes album without named expectations.

Thee Oh Sees: Floating Coffin; I didn't really like several prior but it's their best and most ambitious album thus far

Somewhat related:
Treasure Fleet: Future Sounds; not the expected spawn of a forgettable band name representing members of the Arrivals, the Smoking Popes, Lawrence Arms and the Sass Dragons. Moddy psych rock. Truth.

Yeah I dig Treasure Fleet a whole bunch. Do they have a new release on the horizon?

They have two albums:
Although it was recorded first, Future Ways, is their second record, released earlier this year.
Cocomotion was released in 2012.
I like Future Ways better but that may be due to familiarity because I've had the demos since 2009.

Ah, I knew they switched the record/release for the two albums, and I thought Future Ways came out last year. Was hoping they already had a new one in the can to be released soon.

Treasure Fleet sounds alright, but I'd rather just have a new Arrivals album.

I've been digging this Glocco Morra album:

http://gloccamorradied.bandcamp.com/track/yall-boots-hats-die-angry-3

Probably no one will agree with this description, but to me they sound like if you mixed Cap'n Jazz with the Plastic Constellations, but made it a little more rockin'.

Not a new record, but a new format: Recess is soon releasing Goodbye New World on vinyl.

The first track off that Glocca Morra record you linked sounds very similar to early Everclear ( World of Noise / Sparkle and Fade ). The rest of it sounds like a couple dozen other bands releasing records around 2001.

I got a Plastic Constellations Crusades record for free with an order but I've never listened to it.
...Just listened to it. Sounds like a typical Frenchkiss Records release. Not bad a bad album but every song is the same from this beat to death genre. Although I'm not a huge fan of this stuff, from my limited exposure, I prefer the early stuff from Call Me Lightning.

Crusades is probably my favorite Plastic Constellations album. Admittedly, the songs don't differentiate themselves much at first, but it's a good album. They definitely fit the Frenchkiss, indie-tinged, Fugazi-loving, post-hardcore aesthetic. Though, the one dude is Lazerbeak, one of those Doomtree people, and I do think there's a faint whiff of hip hop influence in the drums at times. Anyway, especially if you really live in Minneapolis, you should definitely give them a second chance.

Two tracks from the new Dead Mechanical record out this summer. Can't wait for this.

If you don't like the first song, try the second one, they are one of those double singer/songwriter bands.

I need to find my cutting-edge burnt-CD college radio show compilations from around 2000. You would love it.

the texas rock scene continues on their roll with the catchy as fuck debut lp from SWEET TALK, the newest supergroup of sorts from the interconnected web of killer punk bands exploding outta austin, denton and the surrounding areas.... their just released album PICKUP LINES on 12XU is a melodic party-all-night-long, foot tapping, wall-of-guitar rockin' fun...... seriously this new lp is one of the most addicting repeat listens i've stumbled across lately.....

comprised of members from the MIND SPIDERS, UPTOWN BUMS, WICCANS, VIDEO, BRAIN ATTACK and CHURCH SHOES to name a few, SWEET TALK is aiming to make a name for themselves apart from their former associations...(and i think they do quite a good job with their first long player)........their sound somehow incorporates some of the my rock n roll favorites with that brash high octane texas punk rock attitude you know i can't get enough of..... you can hear elements of FLAMIN GROOVIES, REDD KROSS, CHEAP TRICK, GAUNT, MAKERS, PAVEMENT and THE REPLACEMENTS in PICKUP LINES and than my friend is quite the good thing......

PICKUP LINES is some ready to be blasted out your car windows, super infectious guitar rock, hands down.... fans of BAD SPORTS, OBN IIIS, BEAT BEAT BEAT, CARBONAS, BUSY SIGNALS and MARKED MEN need SWEET TALK's debut now..... i always want a melodic rocker of an album to get me ready for a night out or erase a bad day at work, and PICKUP LINES is just what i needed......... can't wait to hear more from SWEET TALK down the road.....

these jams are definitely RECOMMENDED !!!!!!
