Everyone in my office received our sequestration/furlough plan today. We will be required to take one day of unpaid leave per week, essentially a 20% reduction in pay if nothing changes pretty quickly, which it likely won't. Thanks for taking care of the guys that have taken care of the country for a long fucking time Washington.

So, anyone want to hire a disgruntled vet?

My agency is trying to avoid furloughs. We haven't received any notices yet. A 20% hit is no joke. Sorry to hear that.

Was wondering if you had heard anything yet. Hope you are able to avoid it for sure. It's a big hit no question...wife and I are trying to figure out how much we need to reduce into TSP, IRA and monthly savings to minimize the loss of what we have coming in to us each month. Figure reduction in pre-tax investments shouldn't kill us as the gov is already reducing our taxable income up front...not sure we are going to be able to get right at where we are currently, but we should be able to get close...hopefully.

Does anyone else sing along to the guitar part from "Help Me Rhonda" with the words:
"This is the theme to Gary's show, the opening theme to Gary's show..."
?

Just now seeing this....Still no word but our agency keeps saying that they're going to try to avoid furloughs. I guess the deal that was reached this week on the ceiling further reduced the USDA budget by 2.5% on top of the 7% already. It might be tougher to avoid now.

Yeah, I was asked to interview for a federal gig, went through three rounds, was told to expect an offer, and now they're not hiring. Wake me up when the american people want governance again.

Random fact of the day: there is a whole, 300 odd page book on Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' in all its forms and versions.
