40% Springsteen, 10% Replacements, 10% bar band, 40% jingoism.

It's just not my bag, mostly. Feels a bit contrived.

I'd have to agree.
This sounds like a human centipede starting with the replacements feeding on springsteen followed by the gaslight anthem and ending with these schmucks farting out musical turds onto a tarp so all their friends can roll around in it.

I should note that Kate from Used Kids is in a band called Big Eyes that's really good. Released Almost Famous LP last month.

Something that might go well in Twilightkids's girl-fronted noise pop thread, but it's here anyway. They back up Kepi Ghoulie on occasion. I'm interested to hear a full-length.

Highlights from INSUBORDINATION FEST 2013. No pics because my friend who photographs everything decided to do video this year, and he's still editing it all.

Team Stray reunited and it was a blast. There is also talk of new stuff coming, so I'm looking forward to that. Probably the best Mikey Erg set I've seen. He's finally got a good stack of new hits to play, and the old Ergs songs he pulls out are the appropriate ones.

Saw Dog Party early on Friday. They were a duo, which surprised me for some reason. RIYL: the early Donnas stuff (like the S/T collection thing on Lookout). Dead Mechanical = best band of the weekend just about. Everything they do is great, both old and new songs. And they ended the set with an Archers of Loaf cover. Night Birds were intense as usual. There were only a few harder acts this year (Paper Dragons being the other one) but they were aces. Screaming Females headlined on Friday. I like the records ok, but seeing them live was the next level. I like Marissa's vocals and overall performance live better than on record. The whole trio was on their game. Loud, rockin', wailin', but never wanky or inaccessible.

Saturday I saw Lipstick Homicide, who hopefully will stick around long enough to play many more shows and many more records. Really like their energy and style. Hospital Job (aka Luke from the Copyrights) doing his own thing were amazing. I suppose Copyrights comparisons will be inevitable, but this stuff sounds even more mid-west, if that is possible. I had ramped myself up on the Capitalist Kids before the weekend and they did not disappoint. RIYL: Bracket and early Green Day. Probably the overall best thing to happen was Kepi Ghoulie backed by the Copyrights, billed as The Kepi-rights playing Re-Animation Festival in it's entirety. Rock'n'roll party.

Also had veggie ice cream for the second year in Baltimore at this place called Dominion. I never thought I'd be into beet-flavored or cucumber-flavored ice cream, but it's damn good I tell ya. And other than a bunch of other shit none of you will care about (moreso than the above) that was Insub 2013. I bought a bunch of records and I love them all and I'll do it again next year, come hell or high water.

I dig this....I hear the early Donna's too, with obviously, less Ramones influence....I'd be up for a full length....

duly noted. the cd is in my car at the moment, i'll see what i can do in the near future.

also, this band Blendours normally plays as an acoustic combo, but they are doing this "full electric band" thing for a split release with the Old Wives. RIYL: dumb oldiescore bubblegum pop punk that i can't escape.

Cool. I've been listening to streams of the new Murderburgers and the Worriers albums, and probably some other stuff that has come and gone. I feel like I've spent too much of this year listening to music from 1985 and am missing out on the new stuff.
