The National are so good at what they do—brooding indie rock shaded by subtle orchestral flourishes, thoughtful emotional dissections and frontman Matt Berninger’s velvety baritone—that it’s tough to find fault when the band’s records sound similar to one another...........

I guess I'm warming up to this album just a little, but these last two National albums have been god awful boring for the most part.

Saw them last night at Boston Calling festival. First of all, since when are they big enough to headline a festival? Surprised me a little... Crowd was excellent, and the band sounded great. They went heavy on the new album, at least 40% I would say. I had heard the album a couple of times before last night, and so far am ambivalent, some songs I really like, some are snoozers. I was waiting to see if that would change hearing them live, but not really.

Yeah, this band has never really done it for me. I listened to Alligator a good bit at the time and still like "Abel" and "Mr. November" but I gave up on Boxer after a few listens and I'm not sure I made it through High Violet more than once or twice.

I'm sure I'll get around to this one at some point........maybe.

With what you just said, don't bother.
