Can you think of any songs that sound really similar to this:

Particularly that share the same main melody/chord progression. Folky stuff.

Because I could swear this sounds really familiar.

Anyway, this is someone else's argument that I got pulled into. There's a newer Korean song that a lot of people are insisting ripped this one off, but my feeling is that this isn't particularly original in the first place.

Eh, I hear Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide" a bit.

Yeah that's a good one.

Particularly looking for anything similar to the sung melody in the verses.

Oh god totally. I have heard that major key walk down from D to E followed by A7 a million times, and yet I cannot place where. Fuck. The finger picking order reminds me of Landslide too, but not the progression.

It's the whole incorporation of Pachbel's Cannon into pop music. Been done a million times. But there is nothing really wrong with it.

The vocal melody:
It's the third line of the verse, where it dips down a little bit that sounds most-familiar. Can't quite place it, though.

Yeah, that's really the key to it I think and why it sounds so familiar. And no, there's certainly nothing wrong with cribbing from it.

The point of this isn't to take away from that first track I posted. It's to try to make the case that this...

...isn't necessarily a ripoff of that song. BUT, this poppier song is kind of irritating, and it does copy that vocal melody more directly than I guess that vocal melody in the first song I posted was copied from anything else. So maybe all the people crying "ripoff" have a point.

Basically, I was played both songs, and felt that they both sounded pretty familiar and didn't really see the point of getting all up in arms about this pop song being a ripoff. But it is kind of a case of a higher profile artist seemingly stealing the main melody of his song directly from a lesser known artist. So whatever.

Sorry to drag you guys into this.

I hear Olivia Newton John "Have You Never Been Mellow" in the verses, and unspeakable darkness in the chorus.

That's gotta be an odd feeling.

There's a few songs by Bad Books in my Spotify playlist, and before or after the actual playing starts, one of the guys in the band says something like "ok my bad, it's actually longer than that" etc, like coordinating something out loud. But his speaking voice sounds eeeexactly like mine. And it freaks me out a little every time.

it's a little weird.
the doodles around the guitar are unlike anything i would do, and the the tuning pegs don't look like my style, but the body of the guitar are EXACTLY the way I do things "wrong."

Here's another one to add to the pile. Just hit me today while on the morning commute.
