You took 3 of 4. I'd say you're back in it.

AND just swept the best team in baseball, at least record-wise (Cardinals), at their place over the weekend!

This was just what I needed after how tragically The Finals ended for me.

The way we're going, the Reds and then the Cards will have their way beginning tomorrow night at the Mausoleum.

Despite last week's 4 game skid, I'm loving this Braves team this year.

Maybe it's the fact that Chipper is no longer there but it just feels like whole new era. The bats seem to be a bit feast or famine but the pitching is solid, we've got solid D, and can actually run a little bit. That said, if Uggla, BJ Upton, and Heyward don't start getting their shit together, we'll be looking at yet another early playoff exit.

Outside of that, finding a fair amount of enjoyment from the recent woes of the Nats.

You've never had any sewage in your backyard?!? :o

Bit of a 'sport' digression, but before they moved to LA in '81, I'd seen the all-slogan team play at least 100 games at the Coliseum; including the "Heidi Game." Baseball=too many to even count. I know ever nook & cranny.

If & when they tear down the Oakland Alameda County Coliseum =

I can understand your attachment to that place.

That's actually a pretty apt analogy.

Yep. It's kind of amazed at all of the apparent outrage. Internet comments are maddening.

Actually, aren't all MLBers proven innocent at this point except for the, like, 6 players who have been suspended in the last 18 months? They give everyone multiple drug tests.

I just don't understand why it's such a big deal in baseball, but nobody give a shit when an NFL player does it.

I think it's pretty naive to think that, just because only 6 people have been suspended, that there aren't a tremendous amount of players still using PED's; the use has just become more subtle and calculated--remember these are millionaires with the resources to pay people to create products that can get the necessary results (namely recovery) while still eluding detection. And the drugs and the people who use them will ALWAYS be ahead of whatever testing is currently being used. Almost by definition.

As for the difference between baseball and football: baseball is a sport who's foundation is numbers and the history of those numbers. Using PED's makes a mockery of that (to the people who care). Football, on the other hand, is a brutal sport based on winning at all costs, period. Nobody cares that the Steelers of the 70's or 49er's of the 80's were rumored to be doping on a level that made the East German's seem above board--it was all about winning at all costs.

Case in point, Drew Brees breaking the consecutive TD record a couple of years ago. It stood for almost 50 years and people outside of Saints fans couldn't have cared less. I have no clue what the passing yards record is, rushing record, sack record, receiving, none of it. But I do know 755, 61, 56 and I probably don't even need to tell people what those are.

I thought these were some of the most interesting comments about this from Braves catcher Gerald Laird:

Quote:
"He’s not giving up very much of his contract, because he’s making more money next year and the following years,” Laird said. “His team is not going to the postseason, so there’s nothing to lose there. I mean, what are you really teaching the guy? And he knowingly came out and said he didn’t do anything.”

I don’t think he should be banned from baseball, but make it hurt. Make him sit out next year for 50 games or 100 games.”

Braun’s suspension will cost him about $3 million of his $8.5 million salary this season, and his salary soars in the future. He is owed about $127 million during 2014-2010, including a five-year, $105 million contract extension that doesn’t even begin until 2016.

“If you look at it from a financial standpoint,” veteran Braves outfielder Reed Johnson said, “you lose 3 or 4 million dollars in salary, but because you did it, you’ve got $150 million on a contract.”

I promise you MLB owners are in agreement. If this guy goes into the toilet when he comes back, the Brewers are still on the hook for a crippling amount of money.

Chicago Cubs and City of Chicago have finally come to a deal re: Wrigley rennovations.
