This HAS to be the album title, by the way. Think of the double meaning, as in the grave you so narrowly avoided in that crash.

Album is recorded, except for strings on two songs. So did I tell you that the studio I booked double booked over me? I ended up taking over the old sweat box with a friend and that's where we recorded it. Ken is hilarious and amazingly talented and now I'm going to pass out.

I might send out a rough mix of a song to the kickstarter supporters. Kind of torn. Thoughts?

This is amazing news.
As to sending out a rough mix... that is totally your call. If you feel like a rough mix is something that you want folks to hear, then go for it. If it makes you uneasy in any way, keep it to yourself.
You probably don't want to get feedback (which you will get) on something that you know damn well is not complete. And you definitely don't want people telling you what they think the song needs (which you will get from at least one person).
Trust me. I've done it.

Don't rush to get something out, just because you are excited or want to thank people. Let us wait for the finished product. Patience should be had all around.

Really it's been almost three months since the kickstarter campaign ended on may 6th. I couldn't use the other studio at all because the dates they had available were all dates I didn't have a producer.

You can let like 2 or 3 people hear it, but really I would limit it as much as possible. The wider audience needs to hear it when it's 100% done.

In the 70's, Sierra Nevada flushed 9 batches of Pale before they got it right, and THEN they sold it to the public. Here in Boston, Idle Hands brewery put out homebrewy tasting belgian beers at their release party, and I've never gone back and tried them again.

I think if you let anyone hear it on the board, it should definitely be someone who plays music as I think they'd have better insight into the feedback that you're looking for.

We tend to all want to play Producer.
We will tell Phil what WE hear in the music and where WE think that it should go. All that will do is get him to second-guess all of his decisions and original choices. This is his project. And he already has a producer -- a damn good one at that.

I'm with you - I think it's preferable for him to wait until it's finished before sharing...but like shiv said, IF he wants to share it should just be with someone like you, toots, or Mark Caputo (actual musicians) and not just us rank amateur listeners.

This is an admirable attempt to find the safe middle but have you thought about how this might offend some obner who might not be a musician but might think he or she has a valid opinion to share?

Trust your own artistic soul. Fuck everyone else, especially other musicians.
