Obnerites! (Obnerians?) I'm going to apologize in advance for the street teaming cuz this is straight-up street teaming. I made a record and I want people who don't know me to tell me what they think and Lord knows, you guys say what you think.

Quick synopsis: After three years of combing the archives and assembling a talented roster of some of Maryland’s best vocalists, Underground Wednesday Records is proud to announce the upcoming Diving Horses debut album. Here's the concept: The self-titled debut album re-imagines a range of seminal modern and classic rock songs (from artists as diverse as the New Order, David Bowie, the Clash and AC/DC) as indie-dancefloor anthems.

Here's the debut single. It's our version of ELO's "Evil Woman." It features lead vocals from Jimi HaHa. Jimi is the leader of Jimmies Chicken Shack - the only Annapolis band that's ever had much success on the national level. Oh, and I play keyboards on it.

If any of you take five minutes and listen and tell me your thoughts (good or bad), I'd be grateful. My fondest wish is that Radcliffe will like it enough to put on his next covers mixtape.

It's less "indie" dance floor workout than 80's pop retro... especially the synth-drum punctuations. It's pleasing but I wanted more variation and deconstruction, for my tastes is too much of a "cover" than using the past to say something new. I also would have liked some more bass and instrumental impetus to dance... it's 3 min before we get an instrumental break, and the fade out was the most interesting part to me.

In any case good luck...

Thanks for this, Harry. I stopped reading after "pleasing." :)

Exactly what I was going to say. Interesting take, great keyboard riff, but just a little too samey throughout. I did like it enough to be interested in hearing more from your album, though.

Hope I didn't come across as too negative - by and large, it was an enjoyable listen.

Here's the second single from our record. Despite the fact that I used to state that Bowie's Heroes was uncoverable, it's my favorite on the album:

https://soundcloud.com/diving-horses/he ... i-graffiti

Vocals and instrumentation by an Annapolis band (including that nice live cello) called Pompeii Graffiti. Female vocals by a high school kid (16 at the time) that came to our attention while we were making this record. This was the first recording she ever made and she absolutely stunned us. So great.

Again, would love thoughts no matter which side of the fence you come down on!

I'm digging the "Heroes" cover, Dan.
Sounds maybe a little dated -- kinda like the early 90s (something off of the soundtrack of Until the End Of the World). But then, those were my college and immediate post-collegiate years. So I like how that feels.
Nice.
