So who can tell me where the best chance to buy Heady Topper is in Burlington or Waterbury?

My folks are making a trek through the Northeast and will be cruising through both places.

If I can give them locations and availability, they have told me they'll pick me up some.

Cap? Wench?

Waterbury for sure, and it's a small place so the brewery is the best way to go. What matters is the day of the week. They release every monday, and by thursday or friday for sure they are sold OUT. So if they're coming through on a weekend, it doesn't matter where they go, there will be none to find other than a 2 oz pour sample at the brewery.

The brewery is where Google thinks it is (sometimes they're wrong): 35 Crossroad, Waterbury, VT. There are other stores around Waterbury that stock it too, but again it's the day of week that makes all the difference.

What he said. It's possible to find it at whatever liquor stores carry it, as I've walked in to one and grabbed a four pack with no issue at all, but I'm in Southern Vermont, so maybe the demand is higher near the brewery itself. Or I've just been lucky.

Ditto. But that's a gamble, and they need a sure thing. I'd hit the brewery between Monday and Wednesday.

Yeah, the cap'n is right.

edit: I was finally able to get there last Saturday. Of course I couldn't buy any beer, but I had the sample, and my logo pint glass collection is growing quite nicely.

Aaaaaaaaaannnnnnd of course they tell me that they'll be through that part of the country on Saturday and Sunday.

Think I'll give them a couple of boutique stores that are easily accessible from the highway and if that doesn't work, que sera sera.

Fuck I knew it. Well, you're doing what you can -- sometimes those places do indeed have stashes. 'Ol Porter told me about a little store 100 miles south that had some, a year back, and sure enough they did. But things have certainly gotten even crazier in the past year... people are ravenous for it. A sushi joint in the south end of boston has been illegally importing it down every week.

If you want something as good or frankly sometimes better, tell them to look for Hill Farmstead. I *think* they sell at a few small places other than the brewery (which is a tiny deal way the fuck down a dirt road with loooong lines, and not somewhere you send non-beer-nerd relatives on your behalf.) Hill makes some magical, delicate, amazing shit.

I consumed a bomber of Stone Cali-Belgie IPA while watching It's Always Sunny and The League tonight. It was good, but a little too hop forward for what I expect in a Belgian IPA. I could have used a little less floral and more fruit in the hop profile, but it was pretty tasty.

I'm sending them to 3 places right off the Highway that are all within a half mile of each other:

Cork Wine & Beer Market - Stowe st
Crossroad Beverage - North Main St
The Village Market - South Main St

All seemed to have good selections. Crossing fingers.

We have germans staying at the house right now, and the guy is interested in beer but doesn't know a lot. I asked him what was exciting and new in German beer these days, and he said right now the market for radlers is blowing up. Everyone's making new combinations of fruit juice and beer with low abv's. It did not sound inspiring.

Interview with Night Shift is in 2 hours.

I need to motorcycle there instead of biking to make it not take forever and not leave work too soon. My bike decided not to start because the battery is old. I couldn't find my trickle charger. So Neuro loaned me his bike, which is a rather badass rumbling Triumph that sounds like a 900 pound wasp and goes like piss. I forgot to bring a homebrew this morning, but went home to grab one (and a frozen brick to keep it cool in the backpack) at lunch. Then the town where the brewery is announced that there's some streets and schools on lock-down with police vehicles surrounding a guy barricaded in his house.

...

I see what you're doing, here, Universe, but if I have to jump that motherfucking Triumph over the channel on the Rte 99 drawbridge I will fucking make this fucking interview, and I will get this job. Now knock it off and send me some random cleavage or a long lost $50 in my other pair of jeans.

I haven't seen them in any of my shops yet but I'm hoping to find them.

I saw that a beer store in East LA got these in a few days ago. I've been tempted to make a run but was hoping somewhere closer in a neighborhood more known to me will get them in soon. I'll probably regret not making the run if I never find them. I did manage to score a couple of Hair of the Dog's Fred from the Wood last night. I was surprised when I got to the counter to find that they were pushing $20 for a 12 oz bottle but I bought them anyway along with two Stillwater Farmhouse Ales.

Pretty bummed to learn that the kickoff party for LA Beer Week in a few weeks is a few hours before a scotch tasting that I've already committed to going to. I briefly debated whether it would be possible to do both, but even i'm not that dumb.

Shit, no it would NOT be possible to do both. But trying might be fun. (says the guy who fell down his own stairs after Belgian Fest several years ago)

If they were right next each other and I was able to take public transportation, I might be dumb enough to do it. But the Beer Week party is 3 hours in the afternoon and the Scotch tasting is early evening and they are about 20 miles apart so I'd have to figure out how to get across town for the scotch tasting and then home afterward. Perhaps most importantly, its on a Sunday so it would likely lead to a multi-day hangover to start the week and I'd be in no condition to really appreciate the scotch anyway. I'm dumb but not that dumb.

It went very very well I think. All 3 of them interviewed me. I think it was supposed to take an hour but they kept me for 2. A lot of laughing and agreeing. Final guy had me blind taste two beers and tell him as much as I could, which was fun. I thought of this thread and figured if I can't fucking ID beer types and ingredients by now then I should not be sitting here. One was their beer and the other was a Left Hand marzen. Anywho I am still pretty hopeful.

I tried Bauerbach, an Imperial Maibock aged in Oak Barrels and Autumn Maple from the Bruery last night at the annual homebrew club picnic. Both were great, but I would love to get my hands on a bottle of Autumn Maple for Thanksgiving, since it was a bit too boozy for drinking outdoors on a hot night.

Sounds very promising. I have crossed all the things!

AND, I picked up a chest freezer, soon to be full of a half cow but in the meantime it can be set to just about any temperature below room. Considering some lagering adventures of some sort between now and mid-November...

The questions included "what would you do with a million dollars," "if you started a brewery what beers would you release and where would it be located," "what do you think we're doing right AND wrong," and others. The beers I tasted - in both cases I got the yeast right by smell before I sipped. I got the same fruit notes he had, too, so I think I did ok. And all 3 of them tried the homebrew I brought in (original ad said you HAD to bring one in if you got to the interview stage), and they were actually pretty complimentary... probably the most stressful part is taking out a beer you made out of a backpack that rode here on a motorcycle, and letting professionals try it. Jesus. All I could think about was Loog puking.

Walking out after 2 hours of being nervous and excited and careful and ... just "interview" crazy, it was so great to see this waiting for me. I had one of those moments that basically die after 7 years on the same bike, where I looked down and thought "holy SHIT I get to get on this thing, and start it up, and it's going to rumble and spit and shake, and then I get to ride it home like some kind of satanic broomstick." Such a great ending to a great day. Fuck I love Neuro's bike.

I quoted you. "I love the beer, but I hate driving to Everett." Then I found out the new location they've signed a lease for is ... right around the corner, also in Everett. Oh well.
