sort of dig the song, it's catchy in a repetitive sort of way, but not in an "it's awesome" way.

She's like a poor band's Neko Case, but more for singing accent noises rather than real singing...

Yeah. Shout-shitting.

We're on the same page here.

I've had a couple of episodes of shout-shitting. Pretty cathartic to tell ya the truth. I'm sure that's not why she does it, though.

I've cry-shitted before when I got food poisoning. Fever delirium, sobbing, puking, and mud shotgun all at once.

Unfortunate choice of words given the tone of this thread.

I like what I've heard so far, I'd pretty much written the band off.

"here comes the night time" is great, but i'm regretting pre-ordering the vinyl (if it wasn't for my wife).

This single sounds like a Talking Heads cover band's "original material"

I'm going to put this on the shelf right next to my new QOTSA and Justin Timberlake records filed under "Unsubstantiated Hype (2013)"

Afterlife is the only track that connects, but does not redeem, the unfocused shit-show production of James Murphy.
The rest of the album is The Arcade Fire trying too hard not to write that song.
But they're good at writing that song.
They should write a bunch of those songs. That's what they're good at.

Do what you know...
Or get a flavor of the week producer with a fetish for '80's production and the Talking Heads

Unless you're making House-music or Prog-rock, 6-minute songs are unacceptable.

Remember that Strokes/QOTSA/JT record from earlier this year?
This is the same thing: after all the hype is gone, it's a big deflatable piece of shit that masochists will applaud.

After two listens, I find it pretty OK. Least favorite Arcade Fire album out-of-the-gate. From the looks of things, I like "Normal People" more than most but am too lazy to rationally justify it.
