The Egnater Tweaker is looking mighty tempting right now.

Scratch that, the Rebel 20 has that magical Watts knob we were joking about, taking it anywhere from 1W to 20W.

http://www.egnateramps.com/EgnaterProducts/Rebel/Rebel20/Rebel20Head.html

Damn.

note the attenuation on the back.

think it doesn't have enough booty for a gig? let the sound guy mic it up.

I'm a big fan of combos.

What's the budget here? Like, how much is your Mesa worth?

Mesa Subway Rocket: Sounds like a Mesa, which I'm no longer digging too much. Seems to sound as small as it is.

66 Fender Vibro Champ: Found a video of another stock one, sounds amazingly good, rich and deep and warm for a 5 watt single ten. Color me interested. Wonder if I'd regret carrying it around on a bike, even if I buy / make a case for it?

Tone King Falcon: Well, the look of it is an A+. My god, that thing could be in our living room and the wife wouldn't care. Found a demo video, sounds good. Love the power attenuator. Pricey, wondering if I could keep it so pretty lugging it around. Would HAVE to have a hard case.

Dr Z Carmen Ghia: Sounds incredible, and if I understand right I could use the Volume knob and the attenuator to effectively get clean or dirty sounds...? Again, would have to have a road case.

They seem to be going for over a grand. There's a brown version locally for $1400, and some black ones like mine but maybe a little better cosmetically for $1100 on the Bay. So, the budget is a grand I guess.

My vote would be for anything Tone King (I may or may not have spent an inordinate amount of time listening to them online over the past few years) EXCEPT for the durability factor. I worry about how well it would travel. Oh, and the price.

That's the only used tone king falcon i've seen on ebay, and a good price.

I've got a tone king meteor 40, it's all over the album and I gig with it. It's no more fragile than any other tube amp, and built quite solidly.

I'm looking at what I can juggle to get that falcon myself... Maybe sell more than the mesa? Unless you're planning on gigging in more than a couple bands with a couple of practice spaces, or you're planning on recording an album or opening a studio... how many amps do you need?

Just a thought. And a hard case isn't going to save any amp if you wreck on a bike. It's a hard case, not an antigravity unit with a force field.

Also, you're wrong about that subway rocket. Best giggable amp they ever made, and popular enough that they tried to bring it back with the F series and the express series, which were admirable attempts but fell short of the mojo of that subway rocket. Seriously, plug into one first and then talk to me.

Only other amps I have are the ceriatone frankenamp I built (and love), and the 66 Tremolux head / 2x12 cab. I really, really love that old blackface, and it looks so good the Mrs uses it as furniture. Thus, it doesn't need closet space, it's out in the open. If the Trem head were smaller, I might just get a 1x10 cab and gig with that. Only other sellable things are guitars, and I just don't like to ever sell guitars for any reason, unless they weren't as good as I hoped. The ones I have now I love.

Not really sure where the thought came from that I wanted a road cose just for a bicycle accident, and that I thought it would mitigate any damage in the event thereof. I've played my share of gigs, with amps that did and didn't have road cases. It's all the little scuffs and nicks from rubbing against car seat belt buckles, or other gear, or (in my current case) bike racks or something. All those little bumps and rubs really tear amps up quickly. I've also had a toggle snapped off the mesa during transit that wouldn't have happened if it were in a case. The '97 fender chassis I have the road case for looks new... no rust, no scratches in the tolex, nothing. To say nothing of the wheels on the bottom and case handles, and how easy they make it to move the damned thing around.

With a small enough combo I might go "light" and put hard sides into a stout grocery bag, then some foam padding. I don't need fort knox, but something to keep it from rubbing and bumping at least.

Oh and that boutique store near me sells Swart.

So far I'm daydreaming most about the Engater Rebel 20 head and some sort of cab.

Opinions on the ZT Club amp (which is still pretty portable and has a 12 in it)?

ZT sounds good. Why do you want a head and cab?

Thinking on head and cab was that I could split up the physical weight on a bike easier. Also more flexible on speaker choices. But now that zt seems to be the front runner.

Mesa has been posted on CL. $1000.

Ridiculously underpriced 1484 piggy back. Should by, try, keep, or flip.

Never heard of that model. NH is too far away for a drive-by try out too. Especially with no car. Looks neat though. Are they good amps?

They usually go in the neighborhood of a grand.

They rock. I want one for my studio. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChMGKWXhD2o

sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on condition, usually cosmetic.

Shit. Sounds pretty good on a few demo videos. Not magical, or at least on the net, but yeah that sounds fine. That reverb should never be used, ever, though.

Notoriously bad, easily circumvented or replaced.
