Great to see Barwick and Boards in your top 5 and Haxan Cloak and Mountains (my fave of the four) further down. 2013 was disproportinately ambient for me.

I think I like R Plus Seven better than the previous two OPN albums. There feels like there's a little more substance to this one, a little more heart, than on Replicas or Returnal.

You can definitely hear how the collaboration between him and Tim Hecker affected their subsequent albums. I think it definitely benefited both of them.

Special Request is straight-up late '90s drum'n bass/jungle. It's a time warp to 15 years ago. It's pretty good, but it's really, really long. I think I'd like it more in smaller doses.

I personally only like 1 track on the Pharmakon album ("Crawling on Bruised Knees"). I'm pretty convinced that 90% of her appeal comes from the contradiction of her appearance - attractive blonde chick playing ugly, abrasive, funereal noise.

Mountains is nice. It didn't leave much of an impression on me, but I probably just need to listen to it more.

I decided after her last album that I was done with Julianna Barwick.

I kinda want to hear that OMD. I haven't heard anything of theirs after Dazzle Ships. Is it the best of their last several albums? Or is there another one after their "classic period" that I should check out first?

I don't think I'm making a top 50 this year, but BoC, Tim Hecker and MBV would be somewhere in there

i have a soft spot for well done jungle & hardcore so the Special Request album really does it for me.

the latest OMD is a throwback to their dance-driven days, with a hint of modern electronic inspired productions. for guys their age, they're still writing synth music that is steps above a good majority of the techno/electronic music being produced today. catchy, emotional, memorable, and not driven by trends.
